First, wipe off mushrooms with paper towel - Do NOT wash in water or they will be mushy. In small skillet, sautee 2 tbsp butter & 2 cloves garlic finely chopped for a few minutes. Add sliced mushrooms - I use baby bella's & a splash of sesame ginger marinade. Cook over medium - low heat til mushrooms start to carmelize then serve. Love this dish served on top of grilled steak!!

It is very important to start out with a very hot pan. Put your pan on high...making sure it has had time to warm up. Just when you are ready to throw your mushrooms in glug in your olive oil and a pat or two of butter. There is so much moisture in mushrooms. Trust me when I tell you they will not burn. If it looks as though the shrooms sucked up all the oil do not be bashful about adding more. When the mushrooms are nice and caramelized on that first side stir them around to finish them up. Just when you are ready to cut the heat...give them a squeeze of juice from half a lemon. You can add a little salt and pepper at the end if needed.

Most of the previous answers are pretty good as to how to cook mushrooms.
BUT... do not wash them in water before cooking them. Simply brush off the dirt with a soft brush.
And don't salt them during cooking because that brings out the water in them and you'll end up with a pan full of "mushroom water".

in a frying pan, put a cube of butter, clove or 2 of garlic, and some salt. If you really dig some other spices, go for it. After it gets pretty hot, add the shrooms and lower the heat. Stir them up once in a while but let them "cook" for at least a half hour, until they start to cook down. freaking delicious!
