My friend insists she saw one like this. Could it possibly be pure or probably x-breed? Sounds lovely whatever!

Any color combination is technically possible, if we take into account color mutations.

However, color mutations such as the one described above are usually gotten to carelessly through inbreeding - backyard breeders produce colors like those in purebreds because they are "rare" and the dog will sell for more money to unsuspecting buyers. Shar Peis have quite a few health difficulties (skin-wise) as it is - so I would be skeptical of a bi-colored Shar Pei.

The coat color you are describing actually sounds much closer to an Akita.

The easy answer is yes,it is what is called a throw back to the original breeds which were mixed colours. The colours of dogs for show are set down by the kennel clubs but sometimes you get throw backs and the breeder usually neuters them and sells them as pets only,not for show

ANY/EVERY breed has it's FAULTY specimans.
That's why there *are* PET quality animals available.
