You'll probably notice an increase if your appetite when you start working out. I suggesting putting yourself of double rations. But you don't need to fatten up before working out. You're fine with just working out. When your fat turns into muscle, you'll gain weight.

As with any exercise program, if you are not in good health, you should consult your doctor before starting. If your body-fat is at a dangerously low level, such as with anorexia, you should get that back up before starting and definitely consult a doctor as to how.
If you are just thin, but not unhealthy, there is not reason you can't start now. Strength training is the best way to add muscle weight, and adding weight in fat is not helpful once you are in the healthy range.
If you are thin, you probably have a high metabolism. This means that you will have to increase the amount you eat even more than most people to support your muscle gain. You don't want to gain fat beyond the healthy range though. A good way to check is with waist size measurements.
Also, fat does NOT turn into muscle. Some people just lose one and gain the other at the same time.

it depends if you are anorexic skinny ie unhealthy or just skinny
if you are just skinny, as long as you are taking in enough protein for muscle growth and enough calories for the amount of energy you are using up then you will be fine. It will help with definition to be skinny to start with because you wont have all the fat hiding the muscle.

hmmm body building takes a lot of meat, but if you start small (like me) you'll be fine. Just drink more milk (for protein) and eat lots of bread (for carbs) so your body will be able to develope muscles faster. Most pople think you need to have fat first to get muscle, but this is wrong. Muscle and fat develope seperately. good luck.
