I work in an semi-industrial lot, and I was wondering what to do with some annoying neighbourhood kids. At first, I was just nice to them in the hope they would get bored and go away, but they seem to be visiting more and more regularly and its bloody annoying.
I just want to be left alone so I can do my writing, but they keep wanting to interact with me - ignoring them doesn't seem to affect their enthusiasm, not to mention their (unfunny) practical jokes.
Is there like a magic bullet for this?

Im an Aussie - sorry - does 'semi industrial lot' mean you work outside? If not dont answer the door!
Also give it to them straight. If they are annoying the heck out of you just explain that you are working. But if they are the persistent types, and they obviously are, you could always try boring them to death ie. get them involved in your work. Give them a piece of paper, a pencil and get them to write something too! On the other hand you may have a budding Ernest Hemingway on your hands and it may make it worse!
Its a bummer. Kids that are roaming the neighbourhood obviously dont have a lot else to do, and parents are obviously not the caring types. Try to be sympathetic. They obviously dont have anywhere else to go, annoying as it is for you.

Hhhhmmm so they are not getting bored at your office? Then I'm sure they would love to play "hundreds and thousands" - It's a game where you sprinkle hundreds and thousands out on the lawn and get all of them to pick them up again (with tweezers) - And tell them there is a competition as to who picks up the most. This will keep kids occupied for hours, perhaps days possibly even years . . .problem solved!!
Advice from an (ex) - pied piper. (I know exactly what your going through)

Wow they sound annoying as hell... Yeah i do they live next door. The constantly Kick their soccer ball up against the house when they think no ones home. I too like to blast my music to scare them off. one time i had the window wide open and they kicked it right into my bedroom and it hit a bottle of water which was sitting on my sound system so i grabbed a steak knife stabbed it and threw it back .Stupid kids .

Go out and smile and give each one a dollar just for being there.
The next day smile again but tell them that today you can only afford 50c.
The next day you will only be able to afford 10c each.
For 10c , it won't be worthwhile to come, so they won't come anymore

You just answered your own question! Bullets! Bust a cap in one of their butts, the others will catch on quickly!
But really? I dunno, just act really annoying and unlikeable, I guess.
