I have a P4 processor 1.6 ghz, 512 GB RAM . My operating system is Windows XP pro . Lately, all of a sudden, when I try to restart the system it brings the sign of 'Windows Xp starting' below which there is a moving colored bar, then suddenly it shows a blue screen(which remains there for only a split second so I can't read what's written in it) then it restarts the system again, and keeps repeating this process forever untill I turn it off.
I tried restarting in safe mode, and in safe mode with command propmpt only, but I reach the same result. I am sure that drive C is ok because I used it as a slave on another computer and it was readable and all the data there intact and the checkdisk showd no errors in drive. I am sure that the RAM and other systemcomponents are ok because I started the system using Windows 98 which was on my second drive and it works fine. How can I fix my Windows XP and make it start? Is there any solution other than formatting my first drive?

N.B. Since I can't reach the command prompt, I can't reinstall my OS

Try using the XP Cd, instead of formatting the partition, use the repair option.

Turn your computer on, press either delete or f2. This will get you into settings. Make sure you choose your CDROM to be the first boot device. Place your XP CD into CDROM, restart computer. It should say "press any key to boot from cd". Then choose repair. Hope that works

well really that blue screen comes when thers a system stop error.its a built in thing in ur windows to protect ur pc.

and it keeps coming after the windows xp boot screen coz some program uv installed had some kind of a boot strapping virus.

these viruses attach ther self in the windows startup files so that when it start the virus will be active as soon as ur windows is loading.

and the blue screen is coming coz hes tryna save ur computer from damage.

as a computer programmer i know this.iv had many problems like this.so i would say to fix it.re install ur winodws xp.then use macfee antivirus. thats even better than norton.

norton antiviruse doesnt work many times and can damage system files.

just dont forget to use the antivirus or it may happen again and again even after re installing windows.coz some files get left and them files are enough to do damage again.

this is the 20th century viruses repair ther self and strike again so
take my advice and re install windows and use macfee antivirus the latest version and im sure u wont be disappointed.

its a virus trust me.iv had that problem many times.it went right when i did the same.

make a startup disk from another pc operating in xp. after that you have to alter some setting in you machines bios. that is make the first boot device floppy. you can alter bios by pressing del or f9 while the computer starts.
then insert the floppy and restart . your machine will boot from that floppy. if this doesnt work you have to format your machine and reinstal your operating system.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
