If you married a US citizen AFTER your visa expired, you may still be deported as the marriage will be seen as fake.

You will NOT automatically be allowed to stay just because you married a citizen. You still have to apply and go through the whole long process. The usual process is for the foreign spouse to remain outside USA and the US citizen to apply from inside. Yes you will be separated, but that is how the process works - no exceptions.

To those who say that things will improve once you marry a US citizen - they are wrong.

just dont leave the country as this will lead to a bar of coming back for up to 10 years, you have to AOS now and that can take up to 2 years, during that time youl prob not be able to work, drive or have any kind of life. welcome to the USA

Greencard & yes you can do it all yourself, you don't need a lawyer, as soon as you got married to a US citizen everything changed for the better.

If your visa has expired, you are an illegal alien. Doesn't matter who u marry now.
