I have read that humping in neutered dogs is a dominance issue, not sexual. But, my dog (4 year old Yorkie mix) humps things only when we're not in the room. He has learned that we don't like it, so he does it out of sight. He will take a sweatshirt or blanket, roll it up and go to town. He has even gone so long that his penis turns inside out. I think it has to feel good, not be a dominance thing. What bothers us is that the items get drooled on, dragged around on the floor, and who knows what other gross stuff. Also, his little willy worries me. Any suggestions?

Okay, his penis doesn't turn inside out, the foreskin goes right side in and GETS STUCK THAT WAY. Sometimes it's stuck that way for 20 minutes and one time for 6 hours. Also, he was neutered at 5 months old and was never allowed to breed. We've had him since he was 9 weeks.

Okay, first, his penis does not "turn inside out." That is more like it coming out of the foreskin. It is natural. Unless the foreskin is getting turned in or out somehow.

Second, if he didn't learn when you cut off his balls, maybe you should cut off his legs... ...just kidding.

Seriously, I think it IS a dominance issue. I actually think the fact that he doesn't do it when you are in the room is proof of that. I think he is "getting even" with you when your not around.

***EDIT***

Well, reading your additional details, it is still possible that the dog is upset with you about something, and so it acts out in this way, or the dog feels a need to be dominate over something, and so this is how he accomplishes it. However, I think you may have an issue with some hormones being imbalanced, too. That could give him the same urges, and could explain why he just keeps at it for so long. You might want to take him to both a vet and to an obedience trainer, and attack this problem from two angles. I hope you can get this worked out, pets are supposed to relieve stress, not cause it!

Not really, as u said it is a dominance thing not only sexual, I have even seen female dogs humping. It is a behaviour that u need to discourage, and over time he will stop, even though occasionally he may still hump other dogs in the park just to show his dominance. I do have 2 male unaltered dogs and they usually don't hump except when they r trying to prove dominance.

Sorry but, LMAO! I really don't have many suggestions for this one. You know how to "puppy proof" your house when your are not around, you may have to "hump proof" the rooms he's in while you are away. Might sound silly, but put up anything and everything he can get his hump on! You might want to leave him a toy for security ("Humpty Dumpty") That's all I can really think of other than ask your vet for suggestions to the problem. Good luck.

I really don't think ;you can. It is just my guess that he was allowed to breed before being neutered. This has not been a problem for us. We had him neutered as soon as his testicles dropped. So he has never bread a female dog.
It sounds imposable that his penis actually turns inside out. If you have serious questions take him,and ask your Vet.

Don't be so concerned with your dog humping things. It is totally natural, and it is a dominance thing...not sexual. My female dog (shih tzu named Sweet Pea) LOVES to hump her Winnie the Pooh stuffed toy. She drags him by the nose, humps away at him, and then tosses him around. She actually humped him so good that she got his little red shirt to come off!! LOL. Seriously, it's not anything to be concerned about. If it bothers you that much, just don't leave anything in reach that you don't want humped. And I think that if you stop making such a fuss over it to your dog, he may just cool off doing it as much.
