Help. I have just got round to copying some 15 year old family VHS videos to DVD. One VHS tape has snapped inside the case. Doh. I wouldnt be that bothered if was an old movie that I could pick up elsewhere. But, unless I can fix it, the family memories will be lost.

Is there such thing as a splicing kit that could repair it? I remember that there used to be small kits for repairing music cassettes.

Otherwise, any ideas who could do it?

Just use sellotape but place it on the side of the tape that faces away from the video head. This will be the side that faces inside the cassette

The splicing kit I bought years ago can be used for either compact or videa cassettes. The main item is a double clamp that holds each end of the tape in place - the idea being that you overlap the broken ends and cut them diagonally then apply a sticky tape to the back. The larger the tape to be repaired, the better the grip. The diagonal cut is to prevent too abrupt a click in the loudspeakers. Although the clamp is big enough for video tape and I have repaired one a long time ago, I can't remember if there was a tracking issue as a result. Theoretically there could be.

You can repair it using a cassette repair kit, but if the memories are priceless I would recommend talking to your local photographic specialist.
