It all depends on the recipe. If you are making an omelette, the eggs are first. If you are making some breaded chicken, then the chicken comes first. Just check the recipe, and the answer will usually be clear.

However, if you are making chocolate milk, don't add chicken or egg. That's just gross.

If you go by Darwin's theory of evolution that says that we either evolve or die. He also said the evolution is slow process of changing that come from the parents to the children so if you asked Darwin he'd probably say the chicken came first. although it may not have been a chicken exactly. Think about the alligators and lizards in our world now and how they supposedly evolved from dinosaurs after untold years of evolution. Slow changes over time.

But if you asked me I would say it was the egg because if you go by Darwin than whatever the parents were they weren't exactly chickens and what is in the egg is the result of evolution in process

To most, this is a science vs. creationist religion question. For those who side with the science of evolution, it is the egg that came first and hatched said chicken. For whatever came before the chicken was not a chicken itself, but something similar... another bird, who's ancestors were most likely dinosaurs.

For those who side with creationism (the doctrine that the world was created in 6 days, by "God" as it is literally depicted in the bible. From that one can also deduce that the age of the earth itself, and possibly the universe is about 6,000 years old. AKA: Intellectual Design, Young Earth Creationism) the chicken came first. It was created by God, in a fashion similar to Adam and Eve, but without all the fanfare as chickens weren't the most important beings God created on earth, designed to function as it does today.

The chicken clearly comes before the egg in English since "C" comes first in the alphabet. In Spanish, the egg comes before the chicken since "juevo" comes before "pollo.
It very simple as long as you know what language is being used.

well, if you believe in the notion that God created everything, then the chicken came first, just as Adam and Eve came before their children, etc. If you don't believe in creation, then I guess you might be able to say the egg.
