Believe it or not, just blowing up a large balloon, repeatedly, is good lung exercise and helps with increasing volume capacity and oxygen absorption. Check with your physician first, though.

I am asthmatic and I found that running helped. I had to start off slow because I would just start coughing like crazy after one minute but I have slowly worked my way up on the treadmill over the last couple of years and now I can run like a normal person with out hacking up a lung. Any exercise that helps you expand your lungs is good. As others have mentioned yoga and swimming can be benefitial as well.

Hi, I was also asthmatic.
I have been doing Yoga (Breathing exercises) and have not had a problem for over 5 years.
Please try Yoga.

Any exercise that you can manage to help lung expansion.
Swimming and water aerobics is a good start.
Along with walking
