Never known anyone to revel in someone going to hell...It would seem that they might need to come to know God much better.

REAL Christians don't rejoice over ANYONE going to hell. Jesus said in John 13:35 that people would recognize His disciples by their love. Since salvation is by grace alone through faith alone, none of us deserves heaven in the first place. And since it's God's will that none of us should be lost (Ezekiel 18:23, 33:11), if someone claims to be a Christian but is happy to see people go to hell, don't believe a word they say about being a Christian because they've obviously rejected the rest of what God said.

Hopefully the comfort they get is mostly from the idea that they will go to heaven. If it weren't for the whole "you must believe in me as your savior" or else you go to hell no matter how exemplary a life you've led thing, I'd take comfort in the idea of an Ultimate Judge dispensing ultimate justice for two reasons, a) it means there really is an after life, and two, it means heinous people who escaped the consequences of their crimes in this life, would none-the-less face serious consequences afterward. However, a God that will reject people from paradise simply because they refused to worship him, well, than I can't quite hang with.

I have not been able to figure these people out. One person, I knew well, use to say life was hard-all the restrictions and laws- but it was worth it-to get into heaven when she died. Why don't they live for today (making their own heaven on this earth), and let the hereafter take care of itself?

Actually, a Christian has mixed emotions: unspeakable joy that Christ has redeemed us, and great sorrow for those who are perishing. No Christian " revels" in the thought of ANYONE going to hell.
