Oil of cloves.

It really depends on how bad your tooth is.

If the topic over the counter tooth ache pain releiver does not work, you could try pure clove oil (this is what dentists used in the old days to numb up a area before working on it-its not the best taste treat, but it does smell good and is very strong and will work quickly-if you have s broken tooth however do not apply it directly over the broken area-apply it to the gum line).Clove oil can be purchased at most health food stores.

If your jaw feels hot and you are able to do so medically speaking, take a IBU profen. These are anti-inflammatory and will bring down the hot swelling feeling.

If however your jaw continues to hurt you, or if you notice any sort of drainage comming from the infected area, please make a emergency appointment to see a dentist-many dentists are willing to make very reasonable payment arrangements in severe instances.

I just got finished dealing with this very problem. Go to the drug store in your community like Walgreen's, or osco's, and buy this stuff called temporary fill. Clean your tooth really well, rinse, leave wet, pack some in the hole, and bite down to ensure proper bite. Let it dry for 1 hour, and then you can eat on it. I think I paid 7 dollars for it. It saved me so much pain. I used it for almost 6 weeks until I could see a dentist. I had to refill it a couple of times. Its great. I promise you will feel much better. When I made it to the dentist, I was commended for doing that.

This won't stop your toothache, but it might help a little bit.

In addition to using the pain medication of your choice, sleep on an extra pillow to elevate your head. Sleep on the side that does NOT have a toothache. If that doesn't work, you can move to a recliner or the sofa so you can keep your head really elevated. This will minimize the blood flow to the area and therefore minimize the throbbing and pain. This might help you make it through the night(s) until you can see a dentist.

The pain of toothache can be treated with oil of cloves on packing in the sore tooth. Systemic antibiotics and analgesics such as acetaminophen (paracetamol) or NSAIDs may also help.

Rubbing ice on the back of the hand, on the V-shaped webbed area between your thumb and index finger reduces toothache pain by as much as 50 percent compared with using no ice. The nerve pathways at the base of that V stimulate an area of the brain that blocks pain signals from the face and hands.

Take your regular pain killer and crunch it right on the tooth that aches. Or better still, cloves, the ones that go into an apple pie, does a better job. There is a liquid medication that can be bought from the chemist. This is dabbed on with a small brush. Works wonders! Good luck.

Ibuprofun (Advil, Motrin, Generic Brand, etc.)

The other thing you can do is call the dentist - they might prescribe you an antibitoic over the phone if they think its an infection or be willing to work a time to see you since its an emergency.

Hope you feel better soon!

Painkillers. Against self medication, I would recommend you to call the dentist for the best suited one. My dentist usually prescribes me SUPRADOL.

Also, the cloves are a nice "not-so-strong" solution and will suffice until morning. Try to warm up the area to calm the pain, with a hot towel or compress.

Hope you feel better,
