Personally I haven't felt that way, but then again I've lived a pretty sheltered life. I don't bring it up with people I'll only associate with for a few minutes because they'll have just enough time to look at me incredulously, make some sort of snarky comment and then walk away thinking of me as an idiot before I get the chance to say "and here's why" (because, of course, no one can ever just ACCEPT atheism... they always need justification UNLIKE people who believe in some way). I don't discuss religion with many passing acquaintances so it's also not a big issue.
All of my friends and coworkers know I'm an atheist. My family knows, my husband knows, and my son will know when he's old enough. No one bothers me about it.
The only place I catch any flack about it is on the internet. People get vicious when they're anonymous and ignorant.

It was bad before laws were passed to help keep Christians out of our faces. It was rough when they were allowed to ask on a job application, "Religion?" Most Christian Crackers back then would burn you out of town if you answered, "Atheist". And, I wasn't atheist. That word means "anti-god". My spiritual beliefs aren't like Christians' beliefs in that regard. I do not feel such hatred as they do to lable everyone who is not a member of their club as being anti-something. I always just put Gamsotu, which means, seeing how Christians are so easily confused by the facts anyway, "The Great and Mysterious Secret of the Universe." That seemed to satisfy the fools and they'd go ahead and hire you. I resented that fascism very much.

I know that not being quiet will give me a lot of trouble. But I don't mind the trouble. I'm never quiet to avoid the trouble.
Besides, we aren't the only group who cannot express our views, without 'repercussions'. Anyone except Christians are in the same situation...

I'm sure many do. I know as a Christian thinker, I oftentimes have to forego getting into controversial issues, not because of any fear of some deficiency in the case I could build on behalf of my viewpoint, but because so often the end result tends to leave my opponents in an uncomfortable position... kind of making me feel like some kind of ogre. :P

Religious fanatics are just that, "fanatics". Not to mention, hypocrites. They preach that "love thy neighbor crap" until they find out your beliefs are different than theirs. Athiests just dont put any emphsis on religion and more importantly don't try to shove their beliefs down your throat. What is a "good" christian anyway? Can't you just be a "good" person without putting any emphasis on religion? I believe that you can.
Evolution...its a fact!!

I can have all my respect for atheists to believe or disbelieve anything. I may have been an atheist for some sort in some portion of my live.
I think I can understand the way of thinking of an atheist.

Nobody REALLY wants to hear anything about ANYBODIES beliefs.....and when the hell is anything FAIR? The only thing I can say about the difference between atheists and "believers" is that the believers have much better stories.....atheists are boring.

Keeping quiet just stores up more problems for later, my advice to all atheists is declare yourselves and do your bit to confront unreason, you really need to do this right now with the threat of a supernatural religious dark age looming and all the religious sectarianism and conflict rising.

i am not an atheist but i do practice a religion that isn't main stream and no i don't think that it is fair that christians can spout about what they believe and come knocking on your door and it is just supposed to be accepted yet no one else is supposed to speak up
