In engineering practice we normally use kilowatt units for calculations. But horsepower is used for commercial terms and to categorize a motor. The conversion factor is 0.746 KW = 1 HP and 1KW = 1.3405 HP

Looks like you have quite a few answers in other responses, but it might be good to always remember the basics from your everyday house wiring:
volts x amps = watts. 1650 watts = 1 hp
A standard circuit in a building is based on 1 hp.
110 volts x 15 amps = 1650 watts = 1 hp
With a little algebra and understanding that kilo means 1000, it's easy:
1 kw = 1000 watts
1000 / 1650 = 0.6061 hp
1 kw = .6061 hp
reversing that (inverse) is:
1.65 kw = 1 hp
.
