Anal fissures are not serious and are common in children. A fissure is a cut or tear in the anus, not in the colon. Hence the name ANAL fissure. Because of the density of nerve endings in the anus, they can be quite painful. They are usually the result of hard stool passing or repeated diarrhea. They can also be caused by the incorrect use of a rectal thermometer. If a child develops hard stools this is nearly always a dietary issue - the wrong foods, a lack of the right foods and insufficient water. Your son is very unlikely to require surgery. Improve his diet, make sure he takes the stool softener that was most likely recommended (OTC docusate sodium) and the fissure will heal on it's own without further intervention.

No antibiotics are needed. They're not caused by stress. It's not an ulcer or a hole. They don't cause bowel incontinence. It's just a fissure!

The next time you are given a diagnosis, please make sure you understand what it means. Ask questions and get answers from his pediatrician.

Well I worked in surgery and I help repair many of these. This procedure, if he has to have it can be very painful, however, alot of the time, the doctor will presribe a numbing cream as well as medicine. As far as natural healing, he could try soaking in epson salt and very warm water, until he gets surgery. Once diagnosis is confirmed, surgery is usually needed.

Also, this doesn't come from gays or anything like that. Some say that hair follicles get ingrown somewhat and caused the fissure to form. An incision has to be made to remove the hair and sewn back up.

Good Luck, and call a surgeron's office for any brochures or other advice.

Pregnancy is also associated with hemorrhoids. These conditions lead to increased pressure within the hemorrhoidal veins that causes them to swell. Other conditions, for example chronic liver disease, may also cause increased venous pressure and may be associated with hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are very common and are estimated to occur in up to one-half of the population by age 50.
