You'd think Egypt would master things like clean drinking water and sewage systems before jumping ahead to nuclear power.

All countries have the right for peaceful nuclear reactors. They do not have the right to nuclear weapons or the type of reactors that produce weapons grade plutonium. They signed away that right years ago at the UN. That the US govt is helping Egypt is nothing new we also sell some of our best weapon systems to Egypt such as the M1A1 tank and Bradley IFV. We also sell them F-16's and patriot missiles so why would we not sell the light water reactors to power desalinization plants.

Any country that has the science and technology and the money must have nuclear technology. Otherwise there is an imbalance in the world with just the USA, UK and Israel having nuclear technology.

As a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, Egypt has the right to acquire and use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. It does not have the right to develop nuclear weapons.

No offence, but your president is not sane enough to know how to handle it.
