+ Defrag your Hard Drive.
+ Remove the applications at startup you do not want (Go to Start > All Programs > Startup).
+ Scan using an anti-adware scanner.

If nothing I said works, try tweaking your system with a customizing program.

You have adware on your PC.

All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free.

I-Worm/Stration · BackDoor.Generic3.GBB and .GBC · Worm/Generic.FX · Exploit.WMF

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

The first thing I would do, is check for spyware. Spyware will slow down your PC.

Hi Rajnish,

I think the below things will surely improve the performance of your PC. Do these things and let me know. I assume you are using Windows XP.

Click "Start" button >> Press "R" or select "Run" >> then type "%temp%"

It will open "Temp" folder and delete all the things in it.

Then just press "Back Space". It will show Application Data, Apps, History, Temp, Temporary Internet Files, etc.

Select "Temporary Internet Files" folder and delete everything in it.

Then from programs menu, select "Accessories" >> "System Tools" >> "Disc Defragmenter"

Defrag your "C" drive and restart your system.

You can also use "FreeRAM XP Pro" to free the ram at given interval. It's a freeware and you can get it here >> http://www.yourwaresolutions.com/software.html

Hope this solves your problem. For any additional info, you can IM me.

there is a lot of advice here, short of it is, it is all generic advice and that is all it can be. without actually knowing what is running on your computer it will be almost impossible for perfect and specific advice to be given. that said.

the culprits:
spy-ware, ad-ware, malware, undefraged hard drive, not running a cleanup program, too many programs running.

generic advice:
run cleanup programs to get rid of temp files.
defrag your hard drive
run some flavor of spy-ware program (Spybot search and destroy is good)
stop so many programs running at start-up.
i am sure that you get the idea now, a good place to get anti spy-ware and other software is www.majorgeeks.com they have listings of programs some shareware, freeware, and commercial software. read and select. good luck

you can download system mechanics 6, registry mechanic, registry booster, and diskeeper to defrag every week. if those down work do a scan for viruses and spyware.
your last option is to backup all of your files and reformat your computer
