Do "any of the people"? Yes.... Some of us do study some method. But obviously from some of the questions and answers on here, not all. However, your siting of that specific question does indicate that YOU either don't train.... Or that you may need to take a more honest look at what you do train in and your own ability to defend yourself with your "own body". Studying a martial art does not make one invincible. And the odds of 3-on-1 in a life and death street confrontation would be a serious situation. Many a "black belt" have learned that the color of their belt don't mean squat when you're facing off against someone or multiple ppl with real intention of hurting you. There is the fantasy of facing down multiple attackers and in a flurry of kicks, punches or throws, they are all left in the dust and you standing over them without a scratch and not even breathing hard. Then, there is the reality of combat. Even with just one adversary, that moment of conflict can and probably would mean serious injury for someone. The old saying, "When two tigers fight, one is sure to be hurt... and the other to be killed" doesn't exist as just pretty words. The reality is the Universe in all of its manifestations can and does have a violent and destructive side to it. One harmony must be disrupted or destroyed so a new one can take its place. And it doesn't always happen in a beautiful and artistic way. Sometimes it's just plain ugly and messy. Be well.

I started when I was 13 in Taekwondo and was a Red Belt Black Stripe about to test for black when I was 19. Then I joined the Army and went to texas and started over as white belt. then I moved to Oklahoma and Started as white belt again, then Germany White and Now washinton where I started as a white belt again about 2 years ago. Got out of the Army so no more moving maybe I will finally be able to get my black. I never had a break in training but no one school would keep me at the rank I attained at the other schools unless I was a black belt which I wasn't. I am 29 now so that is aboiut 17 to 18 years of training since I am going to be 30 In a few days. All that time and no black belt. Thats ok I usually beat black belts when we spar anyways the belt means really nothing.

I am a Shodan who trains in Shotokan Karate. I have been training for just over 6 years. I agree some of the answers have a certain "Hollywood expertise" ring to them. There are a lot of couch athletes out there. Let's just hope that the Askers can differentiate between an intelligent answer and a fake.

I started in Shaolin Kenpo, through the snow tiger dojo (now unfortunately disbanded) in Redondo beach around 10 years ago. I have since moved through jujutsu, hapkido, and aikido. I now study iaido and have trained for 5 years. My chosen style is Tatedo ryu which I have been with for near 6 months now. (It was hard to find a dojo that was more interested in teaching the way of the spirit of the art than the way to beat the other schools)
