I'm in high school and there is this girl that I have had my eye on for some time now. I have never spoken a word to her and vise versa. We are on the cross country team and I really like her, but I am too shy and nervous to even make a prolonged eye contact with her. I know that I have to do something before it's too late(meaning before she gets a bf) but what?

If you're too shy to talk to her yourself, why not write her a note?
You can sit down and think about all the things you want to say to her, and write it out instead...
You take the risk of being rejected either way, but if you're as shy as you say you are, perhaps the note would be the best way to go...even if she says no, it should just end up being between the two of you, rather than a humiliating scene in the lunch room or in the hallways.

Just talk to her and try to be confident. I know its hard but if u want to go out with her then talk to her and see where it leads too. When u know u have a chance go for it. Don't ask her out of the blue because the chances are she'll reject u. Please do not give her a note because it shows u that u have no confidence and trust me because I gave this girl a note and completely blew up right in front of my face. I'm shy also and know what u feel but I know that when u get rejected it doesn't hurt as much as seeing her with a boyfriend and asking myself what if.

I agree with the person above. Use a note instead of the hallway so as not to make a scene and be rejected in a crowd! If you two don't talk then the rejection shouldn't be taken so hard since you don't have the saame friends and no one will know and you can get over it. also since you don't know each other well ask her to meet up just as friends and get to know each other. no one wants to jump innto a relationship when they don't know each other that well! hang out for a while and see what she wants from someone and what you two are capable of having.

yes, you have to TALK to her to see if she's a good person.
Figure out what YOUR favorite things in the world are and get her to talk about them. Cross country MIGHT be a good thing to start with. Making jokes are a good way to have a pleasurable conversation.
Chances are you will have things in common to talk about. You must get the ball rolling and TALK to her, as much as you CAN. It'll get easier the MORE you do it. Ask her open ended questions as you get to know her, "What did you think about...?"

Go for it, you shouldn't be shy to show ur fellings. if anyone has a problem with u telling her how u fell about her, don't worry, they are probley only makeing fun of u, for doing this, because they cant do it themselves

if not head on, then side ways. try be her friend, if that does not work her playful rivil. you need to get to know her first.
