televangelists are frauds.
Local churches ask for money in order to help pay for the operation of the church building (rent, utilities, etc.). That is called a "Tithe"
T.V. people are asking you to support THEM....like a politician.
So, to answer your question...It depends on the reason..."titheing" is commanded by God...guilt-tripping is not.

It's not even just the evangelicals - think Scientologists! All the money they are asking for....what is it actually used for? Why can't any of these churches, instead of using it to build a larger place, donate it to other causes such as a local charity for homeless children, ect? I mean, I'm sure some of them do it, but obviously not enough if they have a big expensive church and fancy stuff inside.

It isn't wrong to ask for help to keep ur evangelism program going from the public they serve but it is wrong to ask in the name of God. God has no need for our money but He requires it of faithful servants in the way of tithing to support the church, it's missionaries, it's food storage's, it's shelters, it's buildings and properties, it's materials for proselytizing, and church sponsored events. Mind u I omitted for the payments of any of its servants including it's leaders. All men of the church including it's leaders should be self sufficient in maintaining themselves and their homes and their families, there are such churches around that practice this doctrine, few but they exist. Evangelicals tend to preach the "Prosperity Gospel," meaning, the more you have faith, the more God will reward you with material possessions. These people haven't been outside the USA, and if they have, can't put themselves in other's shoes. I feel that if there is a God and there's a hell, they're going to have to answer to both real soon.

not if the money truly goes to help the poor and also to spread the word to others, it is wrong to take it, and live in a mansion with all gold accessories, if it is to be asked for in the name of God , then every penny should go towards the goal of saving souls, and bring people to Him.

Why would it be wrong? The workman is worthy of his hire.
Luke 10:7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
1Timothy 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

It is morally and spiritually wrong to 'take' money period....... I have never seen any evangelist, pastor, preacher, etc. 'take' any money from anyone. Read Malachi 3:8 if you'd like to know more. May God Bless

Of course it is wrong! And they all know it, too. But their own greed for personal gain always overtakes their adulterated zeal for self-righteousness. Besides, they are all nothing but false prophets, cheats and HYPOCRITES[!] that we have all be warned against.
As it is written: "...freely ye have received, freely give."
Peace be with you.
