Go to a reputable local bike shop and pose them your question. Them might point you towards a hybrid bike which have a more upright position. Also, some road bikes are designed for comfort. Specialized Roubaix is heralded as the most comfortable bike by Bicycling mag and it has drop handlebars. There are many others but go to a bike shop (not Walmart, Sports Authority, or Target).

Find the bike that feels the best then have the sales staff adjust it to meet your needs, make sure to point out your back problems and where in your back you are getting discomfort, an experienced salesman can tell what parts need to be changed or adjusted based on this info. (Ride alot of bikes don't buy from the first shop you walk into and don't stick to anyone brand try all of em till you find the right one)
