I don't know what the big deal is about. A child praying in silence will not hurt anything.

There a dozens of religions that use prayer in a number of different ways. What gets my goat is that I went to a public school where there was no prayer allowed and no representation of Jewish or christian "religious" holidays. HOWEVER, when my Muslim friends had to pray towards mecca on their mats, and what not, that was allowed and accommodations were made for them.

I am by no means coming down on my friends faith, but I am aghast and confused as to why these exceptions are made time and time again across the country. I personally feel that prayer in school have become a huge vehicle of the anti-christian, anti-Semitic movement of the far left. IMO, give all children a specific "rest time" in the day to take a few moments to pray, or read, or heck... take a nap. I don't really care as long as it is afforded to everyone and not just the select few!

No, not really. Jesus said to not pray publicly, but to enter into the private prayer closet to pray. There is a type of prayer that one can do anywhere anytime, and that is the inner conversation with God that Paul referred to when he said to pray without ceasing, and any believer can avail himself of this at all times. Forcing unbelievers to pray is ridiculous and probably would cause resentment rather than respect.

That being said, let me state that the Bible should be taught in all public schools so that there would not be so much ignorance about what it says and about who Jesus is.... some of the misrepresentations I hear about both subjects would be funny if it weren't so apallingly pathetic in a so-called "Christian nation".

There was no problem with teaching the Bible at school in the early days of our country because people were less confused about the reality of God and His son Jesus, but now many have not that clear vision because of the ignorance of God's Word that is prevalent.

We need the understanding of the contents of the Bible to be allowed entrance into the children's education so that they can have a basis upon which to make an educated decision for themselves about its truth and not be railroaded into ignorant rash wrong beliefs by the hedonistic athiestic God-hating "powers that be". And it should be taught by true believers who respect and understand it.

we don't. it relatively is going to no longer be approved. relatively any Christians attending a public college could have relatives prayer earlier than leaving residing house. college is for the purpose of receiving an training. Prayer has no place in a public college gadget. Public colleges must be independent to any religious impacts or practices.

People as individuals can pray in schools, provided the prayer is not disruptive or done for the purposes of ignoring schoolwork. It isn't illegal, it is dishonest and manipulative to suggest otherwise.

If you mean institutionalized teacher led prayer no. There'd be no way to keep teachers from denominations differing from their students from indoctrinating them in doctrines contrary to their parents beliefs.

Religious instruction is the exclusive right of the parent and is not to be granted to people appointed by government committees.

Do you really want your government to teach your kids about religion?

People should be (and are) able to pray whenever and whereever they wish, provided they show consideration for others who may not share their beliefs.

Under no circumstances should public schools impose prayer on students, nor should teachers endorse or participate in prayers in school.

I think that prayer should never have been taken out of schools...but I think to keep people from "freaking out" about freedom of speech or saying that Christians are forcing prayer upon others - there should be a moment of silence every morning. The child would then have the CHOICE to pray or not pray.

No there should not be. That is why Catholics have their own school system. Public schools are meant for children of different (or no) religious upbringing.

Not everyone is Catholic or Christian.

That's not to say that people should not be allowed to pray. What I am saying is that it should not be forced upon the children to say a prayer for a religion they do not follow. They can pray at recess or on their own time.

You're right, a child praying in silence will hurt no one, but your question does not mention that. When I read that question I assume that you mean that prayer will be facilitated by the prinipal or teacher. You need to reword your question if you mean silent prayer.

No! Think about what would happen if this was implemented all over the world. I lived and went to school in a country where Hindus are the majority and the Christians are an extreme minority(about 3% I believe). I think I was the only Christian in the whole school. I don't think I could i borne it if I had to pray to Ram, Krishan or Saraswati every morning. But thankfully I did not have to. I want to show that same courtesy to religious minorities here in this secular country that I was shown in a religious country where I was the minority.

You can put religion in on one condition: The prayers can't be christian or jewish. Now let's see if you're still dumb enough to be in favour of it.

If a flippin' godbot as dumb as the one in the article below can figure out why there shouldn't be prayer in schools or any public prayer, they you must be pretty dim not to grasp the concept yourself.

Additional:

"I don't know what the big deal is about. A child praying in silence will not hurt anything."

Yet another typically dishonest hypochristian cowers without stating his real intent: forcing non-christians to join in with christian prayers, and forcing religion into government.

Children are allowed to pray in silence. Just not allowed to interrupt class to do it. Or try to lead others in prayer during class. And teachers aren't allowed to lead classes in prayer or preach. Just what laws are you reading?
