I don't think so my grandfather had cirrhosis (you know what that is?) its when you drink to much well his liver stopped working cuz the alcohol would deteriorate his liver so his belly got really big and transparent like a pregnant lady. You can get cirrhosis from a sexually transmited disease but don't remember which one.
anyway I wish I could of helped him quit but was not there and that affected me so I'm 20 and don't intend to drink unless its moderate one or two beers on a blue moon.
Some things are passed genetically but those you can ignore.
Good Luck and try your most to help him quit before its late. My grandfather past away in 1999 and It still hurts me every night because I really loved him.

No only if you start drinking a lot like your father.I say make a promise to yourself that you won't ever drink like your father does.if it means not drinking at all then do what ever is the best help!don't try taking up something else as a replacement like drugs or smoking or else you'll be just as bad as your dad.

hey there. usually people who grow up with bad influences around them can go two ways; just as bad or otherwise. it depends on your way of thinking. if you think that being an alcoholic is bad and destroys lives, it will make you afraid to become one and you will watch your drink.

i grew up with a smoker for a dad, my brother became a smoker too. when my uncles came over for a visit, they smoked together. i witnessed this for years.

yet, i am not a smoker myself. i can never stand smoke. and i hate the idea of smoking. :) it is up to you to change the direction of your life.

you can have a drink, just dont go over the border. cheers!

Being an Alcoholic is a choice, it's not genetic. So do't be scared or influenced by your fater. Just be sure not to make the stupi choice he made.

Very good possibility. Never thought I'd be one. My dad is one. Definitely hereditary. If you realize you may have a problem, you probably do. May God show you the way out.

There is a strong chance...but that is why we have free will...just asking the question means you are aware and have a good chance of not being one

Some say the gene is hereditary. But I feel it's up to YOU to make that conscience choice.......in ALL of your life's decisions.
