I may not be able to get 8 hours of sleep due to insomnia and don't want caffene or drugs (my body reacts bad to them) and I already take Ginko Biloba (herb). What else can I eat or take [like a vitamin] or technique that will help me focus and be more alert?

I go to college, take a course that requires a lot of learning and work, not to mention insomnia

Well, I sort of relate to you. I do not sleep well but I don't feel tired during the day either, so I assume I am getting enough sleep for ME. I go to sleep easily, but 4 hours seems to be all my body wants....at a time, anyway.

As to smarter thinking, more focus? I think only you can be the judge. Are you better in the morning? The afternoon? You have to work with...well..YOU.

I don't know how old you are but if you are still a teen, there is evidence that teens do not do well in the morning. They work better in the afternoon.

Other than that, just be sensible. Eat right, get as much sleep as your body wants, (you could look at some herbal ideas to help you sleep), take a walk or engage in other exercise 3 times a week...You know the rest.

First of all, exercise will help the insomnia. Make sure you get some sort of exercise each day, that's very important.
There is a good vitamin you can take called Focus Factor. My husband swears by it. With proper nutrition, exercise and the right amount of sleep, you should be on your way!

EFA's or essential fatty acids are great to improve brain function. You can get them in liquid or pill form.
