Deployment is what we do. If you join the Army and don't think you will deploy you are wrong. You will but don't worry so much about it. I am in the Infantry and I love it. We are doing something that less than 2% of the American population ever will do. We are the elite whether you are Infantry or a cook. You are an important asset to the military and you services are needed where the fight is. I wish people would realize that we must deploy. If we didn't our wars would be fought at home and our children would be subject to unimaginable things. You should be proud of the choice you have made and relish the thouht of deployment. Yes it is dangerous but that is what we do. It's the Army. Close with and destroy the enemy.

No, you do not have less of a chance. All soldiers, regardless of MOS can deploy. Even Recruiters deploy. Anyone in the military at this time is HIGHLY likely to face deployment.

Good luck.

It all depends on your MOS. Support roles such as aviation are just as likely to be deployed, perhaps as close as infantry. Whereas administration could possibly be deployed in a rear guard position. I am retired Navy and would like to thank you for your service in carrying on the tradition of the US Military. Watch your six and come home safe if you do deploy.

Afraid not-- almost every MOS is represented in Iraq. Remember, those infantry grunts still eat, require equipment, have mail delivered, requisition supplies, require communications gear and computer backup, get weather reports...

The nature of the Army is that everything that isn't infantry deals with the infantry... that's why they exist!

no. my husband is a fueler in the army and he is Iraq right now. The guy that recruited him said he'd only have 10% chance of deploying so my husband joined. The recruiter lied. You can be deployed doing almost any job in the army. It all depends on what unit you are in. The unit goes you go.

when you first get activated they will run you you through an extensive battery of tests to see what your abilities and capabilities are. Then that is where you will usually go, but that will not stop you from being Deployed to anywhere

My son enlisted in the Army four years ago, and did some aptitude testing and found himself in the artillery area, and he's just returned from Iraq from his second one-year deployment. But, things may have changed. God Bless you.

keep in mind that everybody in the Army is infintry. your MOS is your secondary job. Say, God forbbid, that you're over in the sandbox and the entire infintry unit ahead of you is killed. you think you can say "nope I'm not fighting I'm a cook."? goodluck on that. But, that being said, from a former Army serviceman myself, Thank you for signing up, and thank you for your service. good luck and be safe.

yeah right!

sorry, but any solider can be deployed its not just infintry. They also are looking for a few good: Photographers, computer techs, cooks, mechanics, canteen sales (trust my friend did it for a year-we laugh), paper pushers, medics, flyboys, etc.

crossing your fingers may be what you need to do.
