My dog always seems to get an ear infection after showers, how can i stop this.?

i've tried drying it w/ paper and q-tips but it still smells funny.

Please do NOT put rubbing alcohol, or anything else in your dogs ears without talking to a vet first, have you ever put rubbing alcohol in your ear? not a great idea. You should talk to your vet about your dogs current ear infection, they will prolly give you some drops or something to put in there ear. Shouldnt be too expensive, and make sure you use them as directed and for as long as the vet tells you too.
And in the future dont give your dog showers, give him a bath, or use buckets of water, and try not to get there head wet at all during the bath, when the bath is over you can wipe there face with a wet wash cloth but you shouldnt really need to use soap or alot of water on there head, best of luck, hope you dogs feeling better soon :)

If it smells funny you can bet your dog already has an ear infection. Don't put q-tips down your dogs ear canal. That would make the infection worse. If this is the case you need to take the dog to the vet. They will clean the ear properly and give you a solution to continue to clean the ear. The dog may also need antibiotics to clear up the infection. Only a vet can give you the proper type and dosage.

Give the dog baths instead of showers. You need to keep the water from going into the dogs ears. The water going into the inner ear is what is causing the infections. When giving the dog a bath use a sponge or wash cloth to wash around the top of the dogs head and around the ears. This will help keep the water from running down into the dogs ears. And refrain from using q-tips in the dogs ear.Reason? You may go to far into the inner ear and cause damage to the inner ear. Use a DAMP wash cloth and clean the ear.

well, if your dogs ears smell now chances are that he already has an ear infection and you'll have to go to the vet to get that cleared up. Now, to prevent ear infections in the future try putting cotton balls or ear plugs into your dogs ears to keep the water out; ear powder also works to dry out the ear after a bath - like someone else mentioned.

ok I have worked long enough around dogs and for vets to know that the previous answer of NO rubbing alcohol is WRONG> !!! Rubbing alcohol is a wonderful cleaning agent and is also highly recommended by VETS for cleaning out the ear due to the fast drying quality....I use it myself to clean my ears ....Now onto the ear infection...if the ear is RED , SWOLLEN, THE SKIN LOOKS FUNNY and there is a bad SMELL they you may have a serious infection. DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL if the skin is irritated, it would burn Call the vet and make an appointment ...You may just need antibiotics...If the ear irritation is due to excess water in the ear and the skin is clean and pink ....clean away

Well, the first thing you have to do is hold off on bathing until the ear infection is fully cleared up as the water will agitate it more. What our vet suggested we do with our Doxie is to put a little cotten ball just in his ear, not deep mind you, but just enuf to stay there during bathing. This prevents water from getting down inside the ear canal where the moisture can cause and infection.

After the shower, clean ears out well with Witch Hazel. Works wonders.

Take a cotton ball and gently wipe the inside of the ear or use drying powder from an ear mite kit.

Quick solution, quit having him shower. Give him a tub bath, or use a water hose. There will not be as much water getting into his ears.

my dog had that problem too! you most likely are going to have to take it to the vet and get some kind of ear solution. it also helps if you dont get the ears wet what so ever!
