As long as you are getting the tap water from a trusted source you should be fine. If you are visiting another country, then I would advise not to drink the tap water. Locals are used to it but you may get sick because you are not used to it. The thing about bottled water is you dont have to guess if it is safe to drink. However, most doctors will tell you that your local tap water is better for you then bottled water.

Yep, safe. If chlorine bothers you, just fill an open container (like a jug) and let it stand uncovered for a few hours and the chlorine will dissipate. Some areas (like south west of western australia) use water from deep aquifiers. Other areas use dams. And some (like Kalgoorlie) pipe water hundreds of kms for use.

If you are in urban areas there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to. Australia is a completly developed place, parts being very metropolitian, just like LA or NYC. Yes you may drink the water there.

Australia has the cleanest domestic water supply you'd find , as for chlorine not all states use it , and the amounts used are far less than used in the usa

Very!
the quality of the water is different in every state. ie. the water in Adelaide is very hard (won't lather soap easily), but there is no problem with drinking the water in any state.
