Whatever you are feeding him is not agreeing with his tummy.
Wet food tends to cause a little more gas than dry food for most dogs, but dry food with a lot of fiber can cause gas, as well.
Try introducing some other kind of food, and see if that helps. We feed out dog Iam's mini chunks for adult dogs, and the only time she's gassy is if someone visits and sneaks her table scraps, which are a big no-no in our house. And even then, if truth be told, she is rarely smelly.
Anyway, try another food. You may need to introduce it slowly, because some dogs will not eat at all if they are suddenly presented with something completely new. Try mixing the new stuff with the old stuff for a while, in a 50/50 mixture, and then gradually wean him off his old food over about a week or two. See if that helps the gassy situation. You may need to try two or three foods before you find one that agrees with him, so buy small packages at first.
Hopefully you will end up with something he likes, which is good for him, and which doesn't cause him gas.
Good luck!

Just like everyone else has said, it's his diet. You want to find food that the first few ingredients are NOT corn or soybean. Those are very gassy for dogs.
I do have a funny story that my friend's daughter told me about my dog. He was stinking up a storm and said that we should put a can of Lysol up his butt so he would stop stinking! Isn't that funny? Out of the mouths of babes...

It may be the food your feeding him. Try to give him a good food that has less fillers in it. The food may be a bit more expensive, but you feed them less, there is less waste to clean up and the gas problem should go away. We feed our dog Eukanuba and she never has a gas problem.
Is your dog maybe eating something out in the backyard that is not agreeing with him? We had a Bouvier that used to eat apples from our apple tree and WOW did she stink the place up. When apple season was done, she was OK.

Change food (dry food only)...canned foods are nasty! Keep switching until you find a food that the doggie likes, but does not cause excessive gas. Cheap foods often have a very nasty sulfurous smell in the gas.
