It was a fulfillment of the prophecy in Psalms 22 (or Psalms 21 in a Protestant Bible), and it shows us His human nature. Jesus is 100% true God and 100% true man at the same time. This is a mystery of God.

I can understand your question....it's a very good one. Why would the son of God say that? I have heard bible commentators give this explanation, and I think it's a good one. We have to remember that Jesus, being God...was also fully man. And remember what happened to Jesus on the cross; He was made sin for us. Therefore, at one point in time, all the sins of the world were literally placed on Him as He hung, suffering, on the cross for us. God cannot look upon sin, correct? Therefore, at that moment, when Jesus took upon Himself all our sins....for that moment, His relationship with the Father was broken. God could not look upon Him. As a man, a human man, Jesus could feel despair, sadness, suffering. To feel that broken communion with His Father in heaven, surely He would call out...why, why have you forsaken me? Even though He surely would know why.

We have to remember that we do not have a high priest who has not been tested every way as we.....but Jesus was like us, He suffered like us, but was without sin.

He was quoting Psalm 22.Psalm 22 was written by King David 1000 years before Jesus, and yet it depicts the crucifixion through the eyes of the crucified man.Psalm 22:22 and on talks about after Jesus goes up to heaven again. It's really a cool Psalm. What Jesus was showing the Jewish leaders, even on the cross,He was fulfilling scriptures.

Yes Jesus did cry out that question and Ive got the bible verse to prove it.

its here in Matthew 27: 45-46 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice saying " Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is " My God , My God , why have you forsaken Me?"

When Jesus was on that cross not only did He bear the weight of our sins and wrong doing, but He also bore the weight of our guilt and shame. God will not tolerate sin my friend...... He loved his son, but when His son became sin so that ours might be forgiven.......God turned His face away from His son and Jesus in His agony and pain I feel cried out to His Father because He knew this and felt alone in what He was going through at the time. The Good News is that God never left His son because Three Days Later He Resurrected Him from the Grave.

God Loves you so much that He sent his son to become our sin and wrong doings........ to take yours and mine place on that cross so we could have eternal life with Him in Heaven one day. He would of still done it too if you had been the only one on this earth because He loves you that much. All he asks is that we take Jesus as Lord and savior of our lives and repent of our sins and wrong doings and turn from them. I can't imagine my life without Jesus.

God bless you richly!

You bring up a good point in that if God is a triune god (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three aspects of the same God), why would one part of Himself question another part of Himself?

The entire crucifixion of Jesus makes the whole trinity thing very difficult to believe.

Why would God (the Son) pray to Himself (the Father) to send Himself (the Holy Spirit) to save Himself (the Son)?

Hel-LO?

I think at that moment God the Father turned His back on God the Son, and it caused Jesus to scream out as He suffered the Hell that you and I should feel.

I do NOT believe Jesus said that right before he died on the cross...i THOUGHT it was said some other time he was picked on brutally by people...but hell, i am not sure...The people back then were cruel...but the people now are just the same...only we are more EDUCATED...go figure!!!???some are plain vicious...i do not like that type and try to RUN THE OTHER WAY!! slander and gossip is not for me..." i just tell them"...i do not know the person and would rather not get involved...that usually stops them...

He was simply asking a question. I don't think it was one of doubt. Remember that he was going through a really hared time. He and the father had been together for an eternity and he was separated from him for the first time at that moment.

he said that because the body which god made to walk amongst us died. the body is still its own being, any eternal creature who dwells on this earth lives in a natural body, or the creature would be invisible. The body only lived to be a vessel, it was the human part of Jesus however this body was itself useless least god dwell ed in it, so that when gods spirit left him this body cried out.

no it wouldn't........when Jesus was on the cross, he actually BECAME our sin....that was the whole point of His dying.......God cannot look upon sin....and therefore had to turn His face from Jesus....that is the one time in history that the Trinity was broken......so yes, Christ cried out "Father Father, why have you forsaken me!"
