Yes it will fit. However, whether or not you get it to work is another story. Sometime in 2000, or 2001 Ford upgraded the all the 4.6, 5.4 & 6.8L engines to what they call, "power improved" style cylinder heads. This means the intake ports on the cylinder heads are now square shaped for improved airflow. Your vehicle has the non-power improved style heads with the round "teardrop" shaped intake ports, which means the intake manifold will bolt up, BUT the passages will not line up. You would need to use EVERYTHING from the donor vehicle including the PCM, wiring and all other associated powertrain parts. The 2004 & up engines will NOT work, because you would need to "rig up" a new accelerator pedal due to the ETC (electronic throttle) setup that they use. Also, attempting to convert your return type fuel system, to the electronic returnless type that the 2004 & up uses probably wouldn't be a cheap proposition. And those are just the KNOWN differences. Hope this helps.

i wouldn't do it yourself. if you're thinking of getting a crate engine then an even swap will work just fine, just have it bolted in and wired by a professional. What i would do though is leave the 4.6 that you've got and bore it out, swap out the pistons, get some new heads etc you know rebuild it so it's LIKE new. it'd be cheaper, easier, and every bit as reliable if you take it to someone who knows what they're doing. With these mods you aren't limited to how much power you can add to it either ; ) I wouldn't just take out an engine from a new truck and put it in an old truck. way too much could go wrong.

my 2004 f-a hundred and fifty group cab is giving me around 14-sixteen mpg hwy and you need to use 87 octane. if youchronic under sixty 5 mph you get greater useful gasoline mileage , it sucks now especialy with all those hi gasoline costs eh. the guy who variations the gasoline costs at my interior sight gasoline station now lives up there , he would not comes down merely to pass to the bathing room and he is going returned up there to alter the fee returned , LOL

stop, stop, stop stop, stop stop.....stop. Nearly every sensor and all the engine management software changed from 1998 to 2005. Truck will NEVER run right.
