Boxers are great !! I own a boxer who is now 9 months old. She was very stubborn. I found that Pet Smart has a great training program you can attend at 6 months. The best way we broke ours was kennel training. Start them when you first bring them home. Boxers are very clean animals they will not sleep where they potty. So your first kennel should only be big enough for them to sleep in. Remeber though right after they eat or drink it takes about 10 minutes for the food to go through their system take them outside and let them run and potty. This will begin their training. When you kennel them do it at night when you go to bed to break the habit of them sleeping with you because they do get big. As soon as you let them out of kennel take them straight outside. Boxers learn very quick but they are not repetative. If you teach them tricks chances are they will only do it once until you work with them consitantly. The program at Pet Smart is 99.00 and is 8 weeks. It is well worth is. Remeber all dogs origanaly were wild. They are all at one time pack dogs. You have to let your new family memeber know you are the lead dog. Boxer pups are like detectives with vacuum cleaners. They will follow any trail no matter how silly to come to a conclusion. They are great with children. Some will go through a nipping stage. Simply tap them on the nose and firmly say "NO BITE" with ours this only took a couple times. Make sure you have plenty of toys for teething. Never give them rawhide. Rawhide is not easy for them to digest and can cause problems. I will tell you now though most people make the mistake of not giving them a lot of attention. Boxers require a lot of time and effort. There is a great book you can purchase at your local book store called " The Dummies Guide to Boxers" check it out and keep a copy at all times. This will also help you in picking your boxer out. When you choose your puppy if it will sit in your hand without struggeling chances are you have a good dog. Check their teeth and hind legs very well. Make sure there is no black spots on their gums. This can be a sign of mixed breeding and possible illness. You can go online through a search engine I believe its boxers.com where you can learn a lot and hear from breaders. I dont think you can go wrong adding one to you home. Good luck and let us know how you enjoy your new baby.

Any dog breed contains individual animals. In general boxers are great with kids, but I have seen some who were snappy and not so great....get a good breeder who knows how to judge temperments in the individual pup. The best way to find a GOOD breeder is to look in dog magazines, and attend dog shows. These shows are easily found in Dog Fancy magazines and on the internet. Price may be up there if you choose a responsible breeder, but don't pass up Boxer rescue groups. You can find a decent addition to your family through these groups, and spend less. Boxers are great, but be sure to do your research. You may have to PAY for a quality dog.

let me try to anwer this unbiasetly but every dog is good with children. you just have to train it well. as far as a good breeder check with akc.org they usually have breeder directories or even if you live near a petsmart or petco. you can find a magazine specifically about boxers and get all the info you need and usually they have a breeder directory in the back. i don't own any boxers but i have german shepards and a 4 month old son. the dogs knew not to harm him due to how they are trained and the fact that i have dominance not them.

Aw! I love boxers. Only prob you might encounter is that they are noted for being high strung. Yes, the are friendly and spunky and fun, but they are alot of work to keep still.

When you train them, you need to have everyone in the family do the same thing...consistently. This means, if you say "no" to jumping, the rest of the family must do the same. Can't have one person saying "yes" and the others saying "no".

Good dog breeder? Look in dogfancy magazine. Only thing is...they're expensive. You could try your local classified ads, but be sure to get a look at the parents, their temperment, health, etc...

Remember, dogs are a lot of work. Are your children up to this? You know you're going to be the one taking care of it. Children get all excited about dogs, but then it ends up being YOU that takes care of the doggie.

Well, coming from an experienced boxer owner, they're GREAT around kids... when they're little. Mine is nearly 2 (Jan 19th), and he still acts like hes 2 months. He thinks hes little. In reality, he weighs about 100-130 lbs and can cause major distruction. He's not aggressive (hes fixed), and is great with little ones. I have a nearly 2 month old daughter and he gets along great with her. He wrestles with me, but with her, he lays down and lets her waller all over him. All he does in return is lick her and snuggle her. It's really cute and I dont think you'll regret the new addition.

If you're allergic to dogs than no... Boxers shed allot... lots of people think that dogs with short hair don't shed... but they do and it can be annoying... if you're 3 younger sisters have not experienced the death of a loved one... that is another downer... Boxers don't live very long... and it could really hurt you're sisters... hope it helped :P

Visit your local animal shelter or pet rescue for boxers, You can get a great deal on a pet that would otherwise be euthanized.

They have everything from babies to seniors! Adopting a pet is alot cheaper, the spaying/neutering is usually done or you get a reduced rate, and you'll save a life!
