I'm not an expert, though I did more than my share of drinking. Here though, is my understanding.

The body wants to rid itself of alcohol, as it simply doesn't belong there in quantity. Part of that elimination process is urination. Alcohol also mixes tightly with water, and in ridding itself of alcohol, the body also removes a great quantity of water.

Also, while drinking large quantities of alcohol, you don't drink as much water. You sort of get a double whammy.

Reasons for dehydration because of alcoholic drinks intake:
1. Alcohol lacks proficient sodium, allowing for less fluid intake.
2. It has been theorized in the past that because of the high carbohydrate content and caloric density of beer, that it may be a suitable post-exercise recovery drink, but science proves this wrong.
3. an average adult, every day lose close to 2.5 liters (more than 10 cups) of water simply by sweating, breathing and eliminating waste. You also lose electrolytes — minerals such as sodium, potassium and calcium that maintain the balance of fluids in your body. Alcohol leads to both urination and perspiring.
4. Consumption of ethanol has a rapid diuretic effect, meaning that more urine than usual is produced, since ethanol inhibits the production of antidiuretic hormone.

Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it makes you pee alot and drains your body of fluids. After a night of drinking too much......have a glass or 2 of water before bed. You will feel less dehydrated. And your kidneys will thank you.
