mctom, hi!
my lover and i live very far apart, and my travel schedule means that coordinating visits is tough, but anything's possible if you really put your mind/heart to it... here's how we do it:
1. SMS : regular SMS, that's personalized... not the general forwarded crap.
2. email : please don't use forward emails. it's cheap and reeks of "duty" rather than sincere love. you may use the email to explain a particular incident, or you can email something you saw on the net specially for her/him...
3. e-greeting : once in a while (not regularly!) send them a miss-you e-greeting... it'll really make their day.
4. greeting card : nothings says you care more than a regular greeting card... everyone loves receiving cards! say "i love you", reinforce your love for each other.
5. phone : this is MOST important! never underestimate the power of a phone call... your voice should be cheerful and uplifting to the other person... it'll work wonders for their soul and mood...
6. visits : coordinate visits carefully, so you can be together on holidays, or even on general holidays... be creative... plan something spontaneous... go somewhere you've never been before... it all adds spice.
7. regular mail : when was the last time you received a letter through ordinary mail/post? do you remember the joy and excitement you felt while opening it? that's the way everyone feels... instead of a call, why don't you send your love a long and detailed letter once in a rare while? it'll really make their day and excite them!
8. money : sorry to talk about this, but the fact is that without a budget, you won't be able to execute this well... budget for your long-distance calls, and the greeting cards, and the travel to meet your love.
hope all this helped... just choose the ones that you think will most appeal to you and your partner... we've been apart for 3 years, and we're still as strong as we first were...
enjoy!

A long distance relationship needs more amount of trust and love to survive than a normal relationship. so if it's a new relationship then the most practical suggestion is not to have high hopes so that you wont fell hurt if they are not fulfilled, but if it's a old relationship and you know your partner well then both you and your partner need to have faith each other.
stay in touch on a regular basis through phone and internet. and try to meet as frequently as possible

I'm in one right now and its been on for about 9mnths,honesty and patience.A relationship is generally tough...and a long dstnce rltnshp is even tougher,so be patient. As much as possible keep in touch EVERYDAY, and keep each other informed on even the little things...like wat u ate, where u went, who upset u at wrk or sch, dreams u had, basically anything that u would have shared if u were both together.
I'll be honest wiv u its not easy but just be honest and patient, dnt get upset at everything cos d oda person is going through d same thing as u are...u both need to support each other through it.
I call my bf every week, send e-mails everyday, call him when am up and when am down,I include him in everything I do like he was here with me.We have arguments but we sort it out.
I wish you Goodluck.........hope it works out for you guys.

By continously keeping in touch with phone or mail. Keep sending the person your recent photgraphs or video, or any blog that you have written.
