If I were Japanies I would be braing loudly and continually for nuclear weapons at this time. "We have reactors. We have a space program. We have the reasorces and ablity. We can NOT depend on the US too protect us from North Korea! We have too take action too protect our selves from them!"
Thank my lucky stars I don't live their!
In my mind it makes perfect scence too me that Japan would want too persue nuclear weapons ambitions at this point in time.
I think it's a bad idea for them. It's an ecconomic drain they don't need. They would atract a lot of unwanted regional and world wide attention from such a thing. I think it would be a very bad long term investment for them.
Hope they don't! But I can understand if they do!

The last thing China or Russia want is a Nuclear Japan, it would put that nut job in N Korea on the defensive and risk the stability of the region, which No sane leader wants. The serious possibility of Japan going nuclear would probably force China re-think all they aid they have been to N. Korea, having the bomb is a lot less of a power trip when the other sides got it also. They might even feel obliged to intercede on Japan's, and through them our, behalf. Something to, at least, consider.

Japan is still a rapidly changing culture. I could foresee them getting nuclear capabilities and being a hard and fast ally to the U.S. I can also picture them getting the technology and if things get too heated for them, have them join the Europeans and Russians in condemning Israel. If they don't go nuclear, we will be much weaker in the region with regards to political clout dealing with China, N. Korea, India, and a multitude of lesser countries.

Japan going nuclear would not be bad, but it would not solve the problem.
The problem is not nuclear deterrence through nuclear proliferation.
The only way to get North Korea to not use the bomb is to make them so dependent on us or their neighbors that they can't afford to ever use the bomb. The best way to do that is to spread capitalism there (if N. Korea would ever allow it.)
For example, the Chinese would now never consider using their nuclear weapons against us, because without us, their economy would tank and go into a tailspin. We are their biggest investors and customers. Maybe we should try to get Walmart and McDonald's into Pyongyang.

Don't worry. The news which circulate in the world are overblown.
In Japan, according to a census, majority of citizen are against holding nuke weapons.
And even most politicians are discreet about this topic.
Only one politician, Shoichi Nakagawa, is lifting his voice in this topic.
But actually, it is not difficult to hold it for Japan. Today, 40% of the electric generation is done by nuclear power generation.

in case you have been eastern, might you have faith Obama and the Democrats to shield you to the dying? This President decreed he has the potential to arrest and carry indefinitely any American citizen he deems to be a terrorist probability. He additionally claims the potential to execute (homicide) any citizen deemed a probability without trial and he has already finished so by skill of way of drone air strike. He lies (as an occasion, shop your coverage, medical expert, etc). Promotes Islam and facilitates unlawful immigration. Japan facilitates NO Muslim immigration. Obama has cut back the defense force mutually as advertising social experimentation that weakens readiness all of the mutually as increasing defense force commitments all over the realm. He promised Congress that the u . s .'s previous nuclear warheads may well be as much as date if Congress might approve a sparkling start up treaty with the Russians. He lied lower back; no updates to the war heads - useful unilateral disarmament. His so called pink line interior the Syrian terrorist war are a international humorous tale as he lied with regard to the end results of Syria crossing the line by skill of utilising poison gas. there replaced into no credible result. the u . s ./NATO had a protection contract with Ukraine. They have been given invaded and Obama subsidized out - no longer even weapons transfers have been given. lower back, in case you have been Japan/South Korea might you have faith Obama or his clone, Hillary?

As scary as it sounds, I believe Japan owes it to themselves to have the strongest defensive posture in the south Pacific.
Japan is no longer our enemy. We have a great mutual respect for Japan. We have a new and mutual enemy in Kim Jong Il, who doesn't hesitate to demean Japan, every chance he gets.
It's time this midget was put back in his hole and I believe Japan is the one to do it. We can no longer hold grudges about Japanese atrocities sixty five years ago. that was a different Japan with different leadership. Korea and China will just have to accept that fact and move on. If they don't, they will soon have a new and militaristic Japan to deal with. One that they helped create.

With their current system of government and the advanced level of their society I would say that it would not be much of a threat to the United States if they should go nuclear. I think its a good idea. Also for Taiwan and Chechnya. Think China and Russia might reconsider their stance on N.Korea and Iran after that......

Absolutely not. They don't need nuclear weapons as long as the U.S. is a close ally, and I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future. North Korea knows we would retaliate if they attacked Japan.
