Clay is a drying agent. When moist, it is quite pliable so it can be easily spread on your skin, and as it dries, it absorbs oil from your skin. Additionally, it also adheres to dead skin cells and sometimes can even pull whiteheads or blackheads out since it's absorbing the oil and dead skin around them. If you have oily skin, a clay mask used weekly can help control it, but don't use it on areas with active acne because it can cause inflamed skin to get worse.

Do Clay Masks Work

Anyone who throws pottery knows how drying it can be. Clay tends to take up oil and with constant rubbing it removes skin also. When it dries it shrinks as the water evaporates thus helping push our impurities from the skin. There are a variety of masks out there. You can even use egg whites and let them dry. I used them as a teenager to help keep my skin clear.

Each to their own. I am allergic to Mary Kay but it works well for many people. I am allergic to Clinique but many people swear by it. Not all clays are the same some have minerals and other things in them.

Typically used for oily/acneic skin, the clay absorbs impurities in the pores. Common types of clays in these masks are kaolin and bentonite.

You may see them combined with other ingredients like tea tree oil (anti-bacterial) lavender or chamomile (anti inflamatory), salicylic (oil absorbing/exfoliating).

Good luck!

Clay masks unclog your pores and absorb the oil. The best clay masks are from Mary Kay. Click the link below.
