No answers for this question will be correct, they will all be personal opinions. Every person is different and so is every dog. You should get the dog that fits your lifestyle-are you busy (gone alot), are you active (exercise), how big is your house, do you have a fenced yard, do you have kids, do you plan to have kids, can you control a dominant breed or a more submissive breed better, do you have other pets? Some dogs are very active while others are couch potatoes, some like kids, some don't, some are dominant, some are submissive, this will help you narrow your search, but you should still meet the dog in person to be sure (Never agree to pay for a dog before meeting it!!!)and if possible the parents. Never buy a dog ONLY because of looks, that is how they end up in shelters If you want to know my favorite breed it is the Beagle, they are very loyal and loving, they will do anything to please you, love everyone they meet! My Beagle Dakota is such a cuddle bug, he loves to cuddle all day long and when I am sad he cheers me up. Good Luck with your search and remember, Please don't litter, fix your critter! It depends on what you are looking for in a dog. A hunting dog, a dog for protection, a companion, or whatever. Figure out what you are looking for, and research the different breeds that suit your wants and needs, then get one from a reputable breeder, a shelter, or a rescue organization. Make sure, as there are too many dogs that are purchased as a fashion accessory, then the owner finds out that they can not meet the needs of the dog. My personal preference is the Bichon Frise, but they are a very high maintainence dog....I am lucky that my wife does not work outside the home and takes care of a lot of their care.

It depends upon your lifestyle. Personally the best dog breed overall that I have ever had is Australian Shepherd, sometimes called Queensland or Blue Heelers. They are exceptionally loyal, sweet, loving, obedient and extremely smart dogs. I must warn you though, they do have rather rough puppy-hoods, as they like to test their limits by trying to prove themselves the alpha dog, once they know you are the alpha dog, and they have a job, even chasing the ball, you are set for a wonderful relationship. Once our youngest, Rascal, became a year old, she stopped mis-behaving. She would give me a look like, "I'm not trying to be bad, I can't help it" and I would tell her "you need a time-out"--she would go into the bedroom by herself and stay there about 30 min then come back out with her head down as if to say "is it okay now?" Who could resist that? The love and devotion of the Aussies - really all dogs that are given love and devotion- is incredible. I vote for Aussies!

My family and I have had three Greyhounds and one Italian Greyhound over the last 12 years and all have been a delight. They are full of nothing but love and contrary to popular belief, they do not need a lot of exercise - just a lot of toys and a lot of love!

They are so unique! My parents currently have a Greyhound and an Italian Greyhound, both are eight years old. When my mom feeds them, half way through eating their own food, they switch bowls - even though they are fed the same food everyday!

They love to cuddle with you and are always giving little kisses. Both the Greyhound and the Italian Greyhound are truly the best dogs.

The GOLDEN RETRIEVER is the most popular dog in a America. The perfect family pet, they have a long lifespan, are one of the most loyal breeds, and are great with kids. They are one of the prettiest dogs as well but usually reasonably priced compared to some of the more "luxurious" breeds.

However, if you want a small dog I would recommend a long haired CHIHUAHUA or a miniature longhaired DACHSUND; both are sweet, playful and beautiful little dogs with fairly long lifespans. My little longhaired Chihuahua puppy, Bubbles, is sitting on my shoulder watching me talk to you right now. Say Hi, Bubbles..."YAP!"

Labradors!!!! For small dogs I'm really becoming taken by Maltese. I sure wouldn't want to have to deal with their coat when your going into the ring. Imagine if you had to go to Group with that hair!!!! And Siberian Huskies are a favorite breed as well. But they are extremely hyper and aren't supposed to be good listeners. That's what makes Labs the best. No hair, wonderful temperament, so cute you could eat them up, awesome expressive eyes, and they're incredibly intelligent.

EWWW cats. I despise cats! Uncaring, unloving, uninterested in you. Except when they want to be of coarse. And that's usually when you don't want them around.

For what, exactly? All dog were bred for a specific reason or task, so it's kinda hard to answer that w/outnarrowing it down a bit. But aside from that, I love my doberman, she is a funny, smart animal. I'll never own any other breed of dog again.
