Who's holding up the line during rush hour? You guys are that don't know how to drive properly is what causes it. One out of every ten drivers actually knows how to drive, the rest of them needs to go back to driving school. How do I know this? Because I drive 18 wheelers for a living for years now and I watch the same thing over and over again. But cute question tho :)

To many people in a rush at once but they can't all get through entrances at the same time. Also rush hr lasts longer than an hour, perhaps call it rush hrs

Like the previous posters said, it's called rush hour because everyone is rushing to get somewhere.

Why do traffic jams like this happen? Because during commuter hours, more people than normal are trying to access the freeway, and therefore back it up. A good example I once saw was marbles going through a funnel. (The marbles are supposed to be like the cars, and the funnel is supposed to be like the freeway.) If you just put one or two in at a time, they can go through the funnel just fine. But when you put a lot of marbles in, they jam up the funnel because there are too many and they can't go through the funnel all at once.

because everyone is 'rushing' to get to work or whatever. Everyone is holding up the line especially the cars that come onto the free way; they interupt the "flow of traffic"

lol, are you serious?

They call it rush hour because everyone is trying to go home at that time. So everyone is “rushing” home. Which therefore backs up traffic and makes it slow.

Everyone is trying to go too fast. That makes them use the brakes and a chain reaction occurs. If everyone would slow down it would be a faster trip but it wont happen, we are human!
