this is something i bumped into at a yard sale it looks really old it is hand carved with ingraved initials at the bottom G.C. ASSISI the writng is done in a different language maybe latin or french with beautiful pictures depicting the story with a hymn at the end the man looks like st francis talking to the birds

Try contacting an appraiser (people who do auctions and whatnot). They usually deal with that sort of thing. Of course, they might want a fee.

Your framed cross is not likely to be signed by an artist, rather the s.francesco d'assisi means St Francis of Assisi. It's probably a early 20th century religious momento but to be sure you could take it to your local art appraiser. Any good museum or gallery will have someone qualified to give you a decent opinion.
