amount of time it takes for the papers to be processed at the DHS for a marriage to a US citizen case. (only to change my status to be leagl to work and live)

Practically speaking, it will take around a year, perhaps more, for your adjustment of status to be completely processed.

1year work permit will arrive within 90 days, and you will be allowed to live and work here. It will take about 1 year to get green card. to check the time for green card go to www.uscis.gov and check the processing dates of your closest office. usually they are about 1 year behind

my husband came over on a visitors visa in 03...and he just received his permanent residence card December of 05 if that help any

you could also go to www.bcis.gov
