I'm in the Air Force. I like my job. I load bombs, missiles and do mechanical and electrical work on the F-15 fighter jet. It's a great job with better people. I like the "military life-style". it's really no different than a regular job. You go to work (although sometimes you work 12hr days or have to wear chem gear to work) and then you go home. There are co-workers and bosses and pay checks. It's a great community. If you want me to tell you more IM me. If I had it my way, I'd be a Marine, but I have a husband.
There are all sorts of jobs in every branch. Everything from being a regular doctor in a hospital, dentist, computer geek, cafiteria chef, all sorts.... not everyone in the military goes to a war zone. My friend is getting out soon. He's served his 4 years and has never been deployed (going to a war zone) or been TDY. I don't think he even left the US.
P.S. basic training isn't hard! I actually had fun. If you're in shape and mature (or at least can follow a simple instruction) you'll have fun. I've heard of tons of tohers who have had fun there too. It's only 6 and 1/2 weeks anyway (air force)

LOL, what's with all the people that think the military is a bad idea? Take away the military and the police and see how long you last.
A 62 on the ASVAB will get you some jobs in any one of the services. The question is why do you want to join and what do you want to do?
The USAF and Navy have traditionally more technical jobs. The Marines are built on toughness and pride! The Army has a little of all of it. If you want to be in the action more, you should consider the Army, or the Marines if you think you have the strength and character. If you want a technical career or want to serve, but not be in harms way all the time, then consider the USAF or Navy. Remember though that some jobs in the Navy will keep you away from family for 6-9 months at a time.
I originally wanted joint the Army to fly helicopters, but need 2 years of college first. So then I considered the Marines (thought I would like being one of the best) and the Air Force (so I'd have a better job option when I get out).
I entered the Air Force 19 1/2 years ago. I've loved it so much I've stayed and made it my life. It helped me get two Associate degrees and has taken me to England, Scotland, Wales, Saudi, California, Texas, the Pentagon, Georgia, and now Oklahoma.
I started out as a POL troop (Petroleums, Oils and Lubricants) working in base fuels. I loved that job. We refueled all the aircraft and handled all the liquid oxygen and nitrogen on base. I did that for 9 years and then retrained as a computer programmer. Now I run the 552 Computer Systems Squadron programming the AWACS.
Think about what you want to do and how you view yourself. Don't let the 62 make your decision. And if you decide not to enter, see if one of these other guys is willing to pay for your college...LOL

The smaller the dep. the greater stable that's to go into. that's that straightforward. they desire fewer human beings and the two smallest the two have extraordinary reputations so they could be exceedingly picky. The CG is via some distance the toughest, accompanied via the Marines, then the AF and army and final the army. We (military) have the biggest tension shape so we've greater slots and for this reason we would desire to different than some that others does no longer. that does no longer mean the army is way less professional or stocked with dummies. do no longer forget that maximum of today's youths would be unable to fulfill our standards! They lack the guidance or they have ethical themes. usa has a pair of 70% HS commencement fee, however the army HS degree holders signify approximately ninety 8%. And that 2% that have a GED, even have some college. Your mom had it in basic terms approximately precisely backwards.

I know I don't know anything about you at all, but I know about the military and I would suggest trying the Air Force, they seem to be the best branch that actually takes care of the servicemen. It also depends on how much of Iraq you want to see and for how long, the Marines are over there for 6 months, but they are on the front line, the Army are there for 14 months and they are there for support, the Navy basically sits in the Persian Gulf for 9 months, and the Air Force is there for 4 months, but the rotation to go back may be more frequently than with the other branches. Do lots of research on all of them and decide which one fits YOU best. If you listen to the recruiters from each branch they will tell you that "their" branch is the best. It's entirely your choice, you are the one who has to live with it, but I would recommend the Air Force, they treat their soldiers so much better than any other branch. I know soldiers in every one of them and the ones that aren't in the Air Force are jealous of the ones that are. Right now all the branches are begging for new recruits so the choice is yours. Good Luck, as a citizen of this great country, it's nice to see someone who still wants to defend the "Red,White, and Blue." Be proud of your choice and be proud to serve, it's a wonderful adventure, you will learn so much, not only the trade you will be doing, but about yourself as well. God Bless You.

i would say that, if you want to live, join the air force. Very few countries have one and your targets will, mostly be easy to attack from the air. But you re scores will need to be better. Try and take the ASVAB again. If you can. If you don't want to live or retake the ASVAB. The Marines are right up or alley. Good Luck on the ASVAB

U.S. Navy Seabees -- construction, it will set you with skills you can use all your life, and you'll be building things, not destroying them.
The people you go to help will love you for it.
p.s.
You'll go through Marine infantry training and will be land-based the whole time. It's great. (Especially if you're not fond of water...)

Navy.
