I have a political science BS and the UN as worthless as they are never sanctioned anyone to invade anywhere. That would take huevos and authority, neither of which the UN possess.
Seriously though the UN is only a small step above the League of Nations in that the US participate, kind of. If we didn't it would financially collapse, have no home or military authority. Where would they meet? The Hague, I don't even think there is a real airport there

They never voted to allow the US to invade Iraq!

They voted to let the coalition to remove Saddam from Kuwait!

The Security Council has never authorized the US to attack Iraq!

Actually they do Paul! Since we wrote most of the UN Charter and as a signatory and approved by Congress, we are bound to the laws!

How can you use UN Resolutions as Authorizations to attack Iraq and turn around a say WE don't have to follow the rules! George Bush Sr. though we would be violating the UN Security Council resolution to attack Iraq, which is one of the reasons he gives in his book!

Yeah... My recolection was their never was an invation vote per se. The resolution set had an ambeguity in it that the US was able too exploit for it's purpose of invation.

The first Gulf War the justification was too come too the aid of the Suidies and the Kuwaities. We even got medles from the Kuwaiti government for that one! On that occation the prompt was an impromtue mutual defense agreement type of thing.

I'm going by memmory here... And it has been proven time and time again that I'm a raging retard. I hope this at least gives you a direction too research in.

I don't think there ever was a UN vote to allow the U.S. to invade Iraq because the U.S. doesn't need the UN's permission to do anything.

There was no vote. As far as I understand, we invaded without the consent of the UN.

by memory.. the UN did not want the US to go to war with Iraq... Bush wanted to do it any way... he didn't need their permission... he just wanted their help.. when they didn't want too, he proceeded on his own
