I had their little hearts pumping sooo hard. We were supposed to be on our way trick or treating, but I "ran out of gas" along the way, just before a dark dead end road. I had them all come with me, couldn't leave them in the car, right?
I told them we would ask at the house to use the phone. Little did they know there was no house, just an abandoned barn. I brought them into the barn, where Barney my best friend has just butchered an elk. We had pieces of elk, and blood everywhere, and their mother did the head on a table thing, you know the hole in the table, cut out table cloth, it looked like her head was chopped off and on a table, great effects. Then Barney comes out of the dark part of the barn with the bone saw just blazing away, dripping in blood, and chased the kids all the way back to the car.
Now they are all pissed at me, but come on, isn't this what dads are for? My dad used to scare the piss out of me regularly. Why are kids so soft these days?

I think you carried it a little too far, especially seeing their mother's head on the table.........that is cruel

Neat - but the best way to help them get over it is to explain the situation to a friend , Then , on the side , have that friend plan a trick of revenge , with your kids , so that they can get back at you . You must be a good sport (and good actor) Go along with it . Act Surprised , scared, whatever. Act like you're trying for an Academy Award . You'll also be dissolving any fears or nitemares that they may may be harnessing

Depends how old they are. I'm surprised they didn't figure out they were being set up on Halloween. This leads me to believe that they're fairly young. However, since their mother went along with this too, she couldn't have been too worried about them. I'd apologize with as much sincerity as you can muster, then point out that they can use this story to impress the hell out of their friends. After a while it will be so ingrained in the family history that you'll be sick of hearing about it, but they'll tell this story forever.

i'm no prude via an prolonged shot yet i do no longer blame your infants one bit for ignoring you. i'm stunned they nevertheless are interior the comparable residing house as you. No that may no longer what dads are for. Any dad who is going out of their thank you to traumatize their toddler, Halloween or no longer, needs to have their infants taken away on the instant and placed right into a a lot safer environment. youngsters at the instant are not "mushy recently". particularly, adults are greater sadistic. there is genuinely no longer something anymore that shocks or scares maximum adults, yet youngsters have not gotten to that factor yet the place they're jaded to unmarried each and every thing around them.

That was mean but funny, but still seeing your mothers head on a table is scarry and having a man dripping in blood didnt help much either. Just tell them it was all in good fun and you didnt think it would scare them so bad. Let them know you still love them and that their mother is fine and you would never do anything to harm her or them. Hopefully they will get over it and come arround.

That's amazing they got that scared. With all the violence on TV and movies these days, you think they would be laughing. Just talk to them (the cheap way) or suck it up to them and buy them whatever their little hearts desire (the not so cheap way).

Uhhh yeah, that is kinda creepy.

You need to apologize to them and tell them that it was just a joke and you had no intention of scaring them for this long. Tell them you just wanted to get a laugh but you can see that they didn't find it so funny.
Prove it to them by promising not to do jokes like that till they are older. Make it up to them by taking them somewhere they like.

You need to go get them something. Kids always love presents. Buy them something then tell them how you feel and how sorry you are, and if you dont want to buy them anything take them to the movies or do something they love doing with you.
