I would be certain that he will have to serve the full term that he was on probation for.
I don't know about carrying the firearm... I know that Harrisburg makes a big deal about it. I would suspect if he has a long sentence to serve for his original crime, that might be good enough and plea down on the firearm violation. I don't know about mandatory thing there... there are many gun laws that carry mandatory sentences. A 25 year old man was convicted (“Felon In Possession Of A Firearm”) in Pennsylvania the first of the year and he got 5 years.
He probably deserves what he gets as that is incredibly STUPID.
I can see dope, alcohol, and missing parole meetings, but where in the hell did he ever think this would be a good time to carry a gun?!!!

Not only does this person risk being sent back to jail for violating his probation, he may also be looking at charges through the federal system if he is caught with the weapon. Once a person is convicted of a felony they loose their right to carry a weapon. It is a federal offense for a person convicted of a felony to be in possession of a firearm.

He gets charged as a felon in possession of a firearm - a felony - and if convicted, goes back to prison.

He gets his probation revolked and most likely goes to jail for the remainder of that, and gets a new felony charge for possession of the gun.
Looking at a few years in jail at least ( my opinon from what I have seen happen in other states)

Felony fire arms possession charge... Serve that time plus the probation in prison. Sorry, but true.
Sentencing will be harsher because of aggravating circumstances.
