Cheaper cheese is bad cheese...It's sad but true...Cheaper cheese usually contain more oils in it and are not really cheese but something else that has oils and colorings...I am like any other person that likes to save or find better priced foods...but with some products one might as well spend 20 cents or more and get the product that will be eaten instead of goin bad and wasting all of your money...I would try to stay away from cheaper cheeses and save elsewhere.. Milk has alot to do with it...Milk must be the secret ingredient...So try the Kraft brand or Bordons' makes a cheese that is equally yummy...well at least I assume it is...I can never find any in my fridge..luck!

Because the older something is the more expensive it is. Wine, cheese, salami, etc. I went to an unveiling party in my city's theater district and I decided that I would try some of this cheese that I see all of the celebs and rich people eat. I almost puked. I slowly and casually strolled by a trash can and tossed it.

less expensive cheeses are usully made with more oils and less milk fat. look for words like "cheese food" and "cheese food product" -- they aren't really cheese and won't melt very well. you can get cheese for less than national brand cheeses if you find a good deli. they generally won't serve fake cheeses either. if your grandmother gets government cheese steal that -- its some of the best stuff out there.

It depends on the kind of cheese. If it's chedder it should have melted no matter what the brand. If it's chedder and became harder instead melting, yes you should not get it again, something is definetly wrong with the way it's made.

I don't know the science behind it, but generally cheaper cheeses don't melt well. But are just fine for a cold sandwhich to save some cash.

I wish I knew if you had cheddar or colby or what.
I like colby best for grilled cheese sammies; melts nicer than cheddar. But I've never noticed a diiference in name and store brands, really.
Maybe you picked out a lowfat cheese? One w/ little fat won't melt well.

i feel your pain, in order to make some adjustments into our budget
i got the "cheap sliced cheese", won't make that mistake again.
only saved about .20 per pack for something that nobody will eat,
that's not alot of savings with something that will be thrown out.
lesson to myself, i thought i knew him, get the best that you can afford, and when it comes to grilled cheese sandwiches, it's
gotta be kraft. me loves that processed cheese.

Look for American cheese that has the "Real" seal, you know the red seal? Kraft is the best, but if it has the Real seal, you'll know that what you have is real cheese that will melt. What you purchased is probably imitation cheese.

Cheese is nasty to begin with. It makes you poop and fart hence the phrase "cutting the cheese". Lay off the cheese ok? Try a nice turkey sandwich.
