christian person what do we think about him having his older brother murdered to remove competition for the throne and the murder of his general to take his wife?...is this behavior to model, or do we just forget that it happened?

that didn't happen mr joe cool? maybe you are reading the wrong version of the bible! when david ascended the throne he had his older brother murdered to eliminate competition and after seeing bathsheba had her husband sent to the front lines of battle...to have him killed!

WOW!! i guess i might have implied that david killed his brother FOR the throne, but what i meant (and didn't relay quite right) is that david had his older brother killed AFTER he attained the throne.

to the victor goes the spoils...whatever that means. religion is just a drug to keep the masses under control (who said that?---karl marx, i think)...
i think the old testament was trumped by the new testament...in fact it seems that the there are actually 2 separate religions in the bible....hmmmm....like judaism and then christianity...wow, what in insight!

I dont think King David ever killed his brother. It was kind of clear from the beginning from Samuel that he was to be King.
as for bathsheba your right that was a sin. None ever said that David was perfect.
I will leave it at that.

Well, you have your facts confused. It was Absalom,David's son who was killing everyone.Solomon who had Adonijah killed after he just wouldn't quit trying to usurp the throne, was God's choice.
As far as David goes,he was a tough, mean, red head(the Bible calls him fair and ruddy, that's a red head)Saul made him that way.Like Robin Hood ,he was outcast and had to live by his wits for several years, with outcasts such as himself. He made several poor decisions as King, but his heart was always for God.He paid dearly for his mistakes, there was never rest in his house, his kids were rebellious and rotten.Even Solomon after so many years went astray. As far as me? I'm not worthy to be a zit on David's butt. His military genius ,his architectual genius his genius at poetry and the fact that he also was a great prophet.Who the hell am I?

It is the right and the duty of a royal ruler to mate with any female that he thinks will produce offspring that will aid /replace him in the ruling of the people. A good ruler will do when practical his own killing. Or will allow events to unfold in such a way that he still mates with the female of his choice. That is a royal duty no matter how the people feel about it.

David was a man. We've all had thoughts like his.
David's greatness lies in this quote:
1Kings 15:3 (refering to Solomon)
And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.
David's heart was perfect towards the Lord, even though his methods were not.

Not the bad stuff of course. Actually David is an EXCELLENT example of God's grace. God said that David was a man after His own heart.

The Bible is full of people who are flawed - including David. No one is without sin, thanks to Adam and Eve. Jesus embraced the flawed and sinners, and the outcasts of society. I don't think David's behavior should be modeled, nor should it be forgotten. We all sin every day, and our job as Christians (and this only goes for those who are Christians, obviously) is to try to live a good life and be good people. Only Jesus and God are truly righteous.

thats the problem everyone sees all the mistakes but they don't see how God seen these men...David was loved by God,,not by the mistakes he made but because in all that david still seeked God with His whole heart..trying to learn from His mistakes and press on..if all we can see is what msitakes people make how will we ever see God...
