Yes, it is very good for the dogs coat. You get the omega3 salmon oil I believe. It makes their coat shiny and helps with dogs who have thinning hair. Read this link.

"Foods do play a role, but you can't have a beautiful dog if you just feed it TOTW, Blue Buffalo, or Innova and then don't take a comb to it's coat once in a while or give it a bath once in a while - especially if the dog is active." I beg to differ. My corgi mix, Sandy, rarely ever gets a bath (*eye roll here* i'm such a HORRIBLE owner /sarcasm) and she doesn't need to be brushed except maybe once a month because she has a short coat. AND she's VERY active. Yet her coat is VERY soft and she's so shiny I often get told she looks like a new penny. She rarely ever stinks. She never has tear stains. Her muscle build is perfect. Her gait is perfect, especially for a mutt. And her eyes are VERY bright. She's fed Blue Buffalo (canned) and home-cooked. My sisters chihuahua gets a bath a week, is brushed daily and isn't walked often (though she is very active) and her coat is dull, rough and ugly. She always has tear stains and she always smells. She eats bottom of the barrel foods like Gravy Train. For some dogs, diet DOES play a big part in the dogs appearance. Despite what people who still swear by Alpo and Ol'Roy will tell you. Just as some humans only look their best when they're getting EVERYTHING their body needs in their diet, some dogs are the same. That being said, since the dog was fed Pro Pac, I'm thinking it was good genetics. Good genetics plays a big part in it, too. My American pit bull thrived on Alpo. Even when I fed her Alpo her coat was soft and she was always full of life. She is also well bred and has VERY good genes. However, when my corgi mix was fed Alpo... well, I didn't even like petting her because her coat felt like a cats tongue.

Actually a well balanced diet with a good dry dog food will give a good shiny coat but I have always put bacon drippings on their dog food.
I am not sure if it is the balance diet of the dry dog food that does this but as long as the bacon drippings doesn't seem to hurt them I will continue the practice as they really love it.
Be careful not to give too much of any additive to dog food as it can mess with their bowels and you could wake up to an accident on the floor.

Yes, fish oil is an excellent source of Omega 3! I use the same supplement as FairlyErica, 3V Capsules. It also comes in a liquid. I have a dog with allergies, and it really helps his skin. Check with your vet on types and dosages of supplements. Too much can cause diarrhea.

If you give your dog a good dog food, you will not need any oil. I've always been told,to give the dog a egg once a week to make their coat shiny. And a dog will eat an egg before they will eat fish oil.

Yes Salmon oil is very good for the dogs skin and coat. I don't add any to my dogs food anymore because the food I feed them already contains it, it's also a good source of Omega 3 and 6
I used to feed my dogs this brand of Salmon Oil before I started feeding them the food they're eating now. http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Kronch-Wild-Salmon-Oil/160001.aspx

yes I have done this and it works. It also helps with dogs who have dry skin.Fish oils have a lot of nutrients that your dog needs.Of course it will take a little time before you notice the difference.I'd give it a couple of months before you see the difference. But soon after wards there should be a noticeable shine and gloss to your dogs coat.

I give it to our dogs. They get really dry skin in winter and scratch alot the fish oil has done wonders.
It will do more good than bad so let him give it to your dog.But it should be given by weight to be effective so ask the vet for the right dosage.

Absolutely, Omega 3s are healthy and very important (for you too!!). We use a brand we use is called 3V Caps. If you use straight fish oil (NOT cod liver oil), make sure to add vitamin E for absorbtion. The kind we use comes with vitamin already in.
