LCMS is far more conservative. ELCA believes that the Bible contains the Word of God, so they have women pastors. LCMS doctrine says the entire Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, so no women pastors - Timothy 1 and 2
Unfortunately the LCMS is in crisis right now and liberalism is taking over one congregation at a time.

i have been in an ELCA church, yet my church stop them this year because ELCA became approving gay pastors. Now my church is an self sustaining Evangelical Lutheran church. imagine the different important Lutheran communities (synods -- Missouri and Wisconsin) are in all likelihood more effective conservative and stricter than ELCA, with a bit of luck. said on the ELCA information superhighway website once that they were also in want of early time period abortions. not of God both. i appreciate being a Lutheran, yet recommend you check out the church's association and what their important beliefs are. some church homes have a information superhighway website with their faith fact on it, about what they believe.

You probably want to read about it yourself on the Internet Encyclopedia link below.
The LCMS is a conservative, Confessional Lutheran Christian denomination with German immigrant roots.
Currently, the ELCA is one of the protestant churches in the United States that allows ordination of women to become clergy.

Both are products of mergers, primarily of ethnic "old world" origins. The ELCA is significantly larger and more liberal.
Better suggests a value judgement much harder to make. Both preach a clear Gospel message of Grace. Both have their market niche which they faithfully seek to fill.
