Gandhi is the one person who witnessed Jesus Christ more than anybody else in the past century. Jesus was the greatest hero for Gandhi, and he developed his non-violence (ahimsa) and truth (satyagraha) from Jesus' teachings. Gandhi came to know Jesus through the writings of the Great Russian writer, Tolstoy. Later, two other freedom fighters, Nelson Mandela and M. L. King followed the example of Gandhi. Our world saw Jesus through these great men who practiced Jesus' teachings.
Once a few Christian missionaries appraoched Gandhi and asked him to join the Christian church. "Which of your churches do you want me to join?" he asked in return.
The Christian churches, broken into a million pieces, and fighting with each other claiming to be the only true group, are bringing shame to the name of Christ.
Christ himself said, "Not those who call me Lord, Lord, but it is those who do the will of God who enter the Kingdom of heaven"

Gandhi will not go to Hell. The born again Christian that murders and rapes probably will though.......... as they have made certain covenants w/ the Lord and have broken them.
That said, I don't really know where the Lord sits on repentance of sins such as murder and rape...........but I bet he is not quite as forgiving when it comes to sins of this nature since they involve taking away another persons free agency.

I know everyone is criticizing Islam these days (criticizing MUSLIMS is one thing, but don't criticize the religion, it is beautiful, but people fall short), but consider this:
In Islam, it is taught that there are 7 levels of heaven and 7 levels of hell, each according to what the person earned, the higher levels of heaven being a place with even more blessings, and lowest level of hell for the worst of sinners.
In Islam, even many Muslims will go to hell (but will eventually get to go to heaven/paradise).
The one thing that definitely keeps a person stuck in hell is that, while in this life, they "associated a partner in worship" with God/Allah, meaning, they prayed to something God CREATED rather than JUST THE CREATOR (who cannot be seen, and for whom faith is required to believe in). So, this unforgiveable sin, "shirk" (associating a partner in worship with Allah/God) - dying in that state - will earn a person hell and no ticket to heaven.
So, here we see a JUST system, in which each person is held accountable for their own deeds, and not helped or hurt by the actions of others. In Islam, we are judged according to our intentions and it says often in Quran that Allah is "Oft-Forgiving." There are many examples in the sunnah in which certain actions can forgive countless sins etc.
Well, I can only write so much here and hope I didn't say it wrong. So, please look into it with Islamic scholars and see if you don't find a system that makes much more sensethan praying to someone (Jesus) that God created, the need for an intercessor, and the injustice in having every sin forgiven, even before you commit it. I mean, honestly, if the devil were to create a system, doesn't it sound like it would be so much fun to create one in which it doesn't matter how evil you are or what you do, because ALL YOUR SINS ARE FORGIVEN. Now, what sense does that make! Where is the motivation to do good, how is this system fair to those who DO strive hard to do good deeds etc.

wow...i must say that was one of the dumbest answers i've seen on here yet (Chelsea)...
to answer the question, ghandi isn't going to hell any more than a murder/rapist is going to heaven.
religion is the opiate of the masses, it is like a great big bag of heroin to keep the mob under control.
if you really read the bible, all of the "patriarchs" in the old testament had numerous wives and slept with thier slave women while having their enemies (people who didn't believe in what they did) killed.
king david, the stackpole for what a christian man is suppose to be like, had his older brother killed to take the throne and then had one of his own generals killed so he could take his wife... any christians out there think king david went to hell?
i'm not really sure about the whole heaven and hell thing anyway, as far as i have been able to tell the bible never actually refers to "hell" in it's original translation, it was added during transcription.
anyway, i'll quit rambling, but if you want to read a good book it's called "misquoting jesus" by ehrman.

The definition of Hell is a place or state of being without God. It's the only place that God isn't there, and He isn't there by choice. I believe that God's love is unconditional and perfect. That has to mean that he loves Gandhi as much as Mother Teresa and as much as he love Hitler. What happens to us (heaven or hell), I believe, is up to us. We can choose to be in a place where God is or we can choose to be in a place where God isn't. I think those places are within us and we are there now, in a place where God is or a place where God isn't, and our actions demonstrate which place we are.

That doesn't seem fair, does it? Who said Christians play fair? It says so in the Bible, KJV, Luke 12:51:
51Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
52For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
53The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
There it is in black and white.

For the same reason that a person who only broke the speed limit once should get a ticket just like someone who breaks the speed limit all of the time but only gets caught once gets a ticket.
God says that:
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Now if Gandhi had never broken even one of God's laws then he wouldn't be going to hell. But since all have sinned all deserve death. That's why God sent Jesus to pay our sin debt for us.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Isn't Gandhi the guy who made some remark about how he thought Jesus was a good man but his followers just didn't cut it or something like that? That was his problem, he was like this hyper-religious Pharisee that Jesus told us about, thinking that he was good enough on his own to stand before God who demands a perfect standard of righteousness available only through Jesus.
Luke 18:10 "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.' 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
Gandhi's self righteous attitude is what earned him a one way ticket to the Lake of Fire. A poor sinner who confesses and repents and asks God for mercy is the one that God will forgive in Jesus' name.

They are both equally sinners. All humans are sinners. All fall short of God's glory. When you are "born again" you are born into God's family. Everyone can choose whether they want to be born again. It doesn't just happen. Ghandi had a choice to be "born" into God's family and he chose not to. Think of it this way. You can't be in someone's family unless you "marry" into it or are adopted.

I didn't know either was the case. Certainly neither is mentioned in the Bible nor is there a theological argument stating such. If you would like, however, there is a theological argument about blaspheming the Holy Spirit to which you are perilously close.
