When they go into their heat cycle, it doesnt mean they are able to be impregnated immediately. Dogs begin their cycle and then ovulate approximately 2 weeks later.
Breeders will usually do a hormone test to determine when the levels change, indicating ovulation has occurred & the time for breeding will shortly follow.
This can vary by breed & by the individual pooch. Typically, she will be very receptive when the time is right... I just bred this summer, & she wouldnt receive the male one day, but 2 days later had a 'come hither' look on her face & the mating took place.
Please be responsible, if you are not planning on breeding her during this heat cycle (if you are, the dog should have already been chosen & testing should be taking place to determine the breeding time), do not allow her to be loose around male dogs. It absolutely is possible for her to be impregnated from a single meeting with a male, & the tie is mother natures way of helping to ensure that a pregnancy will result, but it can happen without one.
If you do want to breed in the future, take some time to research what is involved in breeding, from choosing the male all the way to placing the puppies in approved homes.
Good luck.

My Chi just had a puppys from what they call a slipped mating, When she was in heat the male would always mount her but they never tied, she ended up having 2 pups. So yes Your female can get pregnant even tho they don't ever tie.

They HAVE to tie...ejaculation only happens after the male has become swollen...he can become swollen outside of her and ejaculate, but the chances of her becoming pregnant are slim to none.
Get your dog fixed! It sounds like she is not being watched very closely...obviously the dogs are not the same breed if he is smaller.

it depends on the age with some dogs. if your dog's in heat it should be pregnant but if not i would get the dogs checked out at your local vet if you want pups from her.

she can get prego but it usually takes up to 3-4 times for the two to tie together. if he was in and out there may be a chance she did not take. if you want to breed her then you need to let them stay together for afew days and then see what happens.
