My one year old son has never been to church and we don't talk much about God. I might say 'oh my God' but thats about it. Today he was looking up at the ceiling, pointing, and saying God. I asked him is God up there and he said yea. Then he would just babble things. My husband and I found this odd since God isn't mentioned much in our house and so I started asking him more questions likeif he could talk to God and he said yeah. My husband said he's seen him looking up like that and laughing at nothing and babbling, but not looking at nothing but the ceiling. Is this odd or just a baby being a baby?

Do you think this is something to be concerned with or is he just being a 1 year old? None of my other children have done anything like that. I have heard somewhere that little children can see angels, is that true?

I am not saying it is a bad thing its just he said plain as day god and was pointing up. I asked him where is god and he pointed up and said up there. I believe in God I am just not a really religous person and don't talk much about God. He has acted weird about different stuff similar to this before, but I found this odd and just wondered if it was normal.

The baby is still immature, but the baby's spirit seems to be somewhat advanced. Perhaps the baby has been in contact with his or her guardian angel. God assigns them to all of us, even before conception.

I'm sure all of the God believers will tell you that your baby is talking to God. But I think you are reading too much into your baby's babbling. That syllable (gahd) is a pretty easy syllable for a baby to say (and if you have said "oh my God" several times, he could easily have picked up on that word). Babies do like to point and laugh and babble. And babies learn very quickly how to tell a question from the inflection in our voice, and will answer yes or no just because they know that those are appropriate answers to questions.

Reincarnation teaches that when babies are first born, that is-- a soul is reborn into a new body, they still have "the other side" fresh in their mind. As we grow older, we forget it. Your child's soul may be thousands of years old and he is simply talking to God just like he was still unborn and on the other side. After all, not long ago he and God saw each other every day. Then the soul that is in your baby's body chose to return to Earth. As he gets older, this ability will probably disappear, which is a shame. I suggest you watch him and learn as much as you can from him. Keep asking questions and pay attention to the answers. There is much we simply don't understand. This is a great opportunity.

Well, as I understand it, the modern/mature concept of god places he/she/it "everywhere." He/she/it permeates all things, all around us, throughout the universe and beyond. In other words, god is a non-corporeal, non-directional entity who would just as likely be under you, as all around you, or above you.
The medieval/biblical/juvenile concept of god is one where heaven is in the sky above, hell is in the ground below, and god is a "being" that one can point to.
Both of these concepts are "learned" from those around us, and it's virtually impossible that a one year old possesses the cognitive ability to understand either, let alone discern one from the other. Monkeys and dolphins can be taught to point and vocalize without understanding what they are doing.
It sounds like your child is displaying some precocious, infantile behavior that you are either misinterpreting, or projecting your own "wishful thinking" feelings upon.
Don't feel bad. Parents fall into this trap all the time. It's similar to anthropomorphizing. Now, if your child's head starts spinning around, and he starts yelling "redrum, redrum, redrum!" then you've got problems.

You make it sound like your baby is cussing or doing some horrible thing. There is no need for concern and there's nothing wrong with him saying "God" or seeing things that you don't see. Babies can tune into things that we as adults are too busy to see.

Babies do see things that adults don't as their brains have not been taught that it is all fake and of no such thing.
My grand daughter at 2 use to point down the hallway and smile and laugh at whatever she was looking at.

I don't think it's odd. Children are pure and untainted by human ideas and rules. They are open to things including an idea of God. When my daughter wasn't much older than your son, she went nuts one day when we were out of town visiting friends and we drove past an old church. She insisted she used to live there. Regardless of what you believe, it's easy for children to grasp the concept of God on their own; from their perspective everything is just as incredible as everything else. Personally I believe your child. I think we have the ability too, but as we grow older we forget how.

Do you leave the TV turned on a lot without really watching it?
Does he spend a lot of time in daycare or with a relative?
It may not be you he is imitating.

they have just came from spirit , so is it any wonder their minds still have this fresh in their memories
if you are sure that you can rule out any conversations you have had in front of him .. then what more do you need

Some say babies can see angels and have a closer walk with God. As we get older our minds become "blocked", so to say, and we no longer have that connection.
I think God is trying to send you a message. Don't let death, illness or some other tragedy bring you to church. Praise Him in the good times as well!
